Hi,

I have been using LightCrafter (the one with DLP3000) for years as it works quite well in the 1-bit monochrome mode at 1140Hz.

Currently I want to get a new EVM that can update at a similar update rate (ideally more than 1000Hz) but with colours (e.g. 1-bit for each of RGB).

In terms of the native resolution, it would be great if it's 1080p or more but the lower resolution could be also fine because the update rate is the most important factor for me.

Could you please recomend which EVM is the most suitable for my case?

I have been looking for in your website but could not find information regarding the update rate in the user guides.

Additional info:

It would be great if I can get some synchronization in/out pins for hardware-level synch.
I would prefer to update the image through HDMI to make interactive applications.

Hello Ryugi,

As a staring point you may want to look at our Light Control (LC) EVMs:

They allow for external triggering/ sync capabilities.

Only information I could find regarding to the frame rate in the link you provided is:
- High speed pattern rates up to 1440 Hz (1-bit) and 180 Hz (8-bit)

Can you please let me know the frame rate of this projector with 3-bit (R => G => B)?
I suppose it's 1440/3 = 480Hz?

Another question, do you have any EVM with 3 DLPs?
I am asking this because it might allow projecting 3-bit RGB images at more than 1000Hz?

Hello Ryuji,

We will have to look into the matter with the sequential RGB pattern rate.

I am not sure what you mean about the 3 DLPs. Are you referring to the DMD?

Yes, I was talking about 3 DMDs, each for one of RGB.

Hello Ryuji,

Though your math adds up, a 3-bit frame rate is not supported for the DLP4710-LC. The following excerpt was taken from the DLP4710EVM-LC User's Guide:

7.3.2.1.2 1-Bit Monochrome Patterns Similar to the 8-bit external pattern mode, the maximum supported input frame for 1-bit external pattern mode is 60 Hz. In 1-bit pattern mode each of the 24-bit inputs are treated as a separate binary patterns resulting in a maximum of 24 patterns. The maximum pattern rate for each 1-bit pattern is 1440 Hz.

However, a single bit could be displayed using three illuminators as depicted in this diagram from the DLP4710EVM-LC GUI:

Unfortunately we do not have an EVM with 3 separate DMDs. This would require 3 controllers (or 6 in the case of dual ASIC systems such as the DLP4710LC) and as many DLPA power management integrated circuits.

Depending on your intended end application, tradeoffs will have to be considered when deciding which chipset to develop. This video on selecting the right EVM for your use may be helpful in making these decisions.

I cannot find any information like this in the user's guide you linked in the previous answer (the DLP4710EVM-LC User's Guide). Could you please let me know which document I should read to get this information?

Also, I cannot find the figure in the GUI guide (https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/dlpu074a/dlpu074a.pdf?ts=1659447078729). Could you please send me the GUI guide where this picture can be found?

Hello Ryuji,

That first excerpt is from the DLPC3479 datasheet. Page 33 section 7.3.2.1.2 here

The second excerpt is referencing a screenshot from the GUI itself. It is not a part of any documentation.

In the GUI guide Page 14 section 4.3.2.2, if you were to select the "Illumination" for a pattern there is an option for RGB.
