Hi eam,
Our customer would like to know how to calibrate the uniformity of DLP4710LC.

Danilo
Hello Danilo,
Can you give more details on why they want to calibrate this and what their concern is?
To clarify, is this question in regards to the DMD itself or the EVM?
Regards,
John
Hi John,
Please see the feedback of our customer below.
We want to use this DMD as light source for 3D printer, and sale light source, the device is still in the early stages of development.
For uniformity, the 3D printer cannot work at normal conditions.
The type of DMD is DLPC4710LC, so, we want to know how to calculate uniformity for DLPC4710LC
Regards,
Danilo
Hello Danilo,
The brightness uniformity is measured using light sensor meter and measurement is taken on 9 points in the projected image. You would use a white image (gray value) 255 for this purpose.
Please refer to the following article in projector central.com for details.
Brightness Uniformity: What It Means...and What It Doesn't (projectorcentral.com)

Hi Vivek,
He is the response of our customer.
Yes, I have already read all email, it not enough to solve mine problem
Follow TI engineers support, it looks need a light sensor meter integrate with PCB card
So, I want to know how to selection type for light sensor meter and do a circuit design again.
Could u Pls give me more information, e.g., demo case or demo code.
Regards,
Danilo
Hello Danilo,
CL-200/CL-200A chroma meter might be a good choice. It does not need to be integrated with the PCB card.
You can use the CL-200/CL-200A to do the measurements across the projected image like Vivek suggested above. Please make sure the display is a white solid field when doing the measurement.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Lori
Hi Lori,
Please see the feedback of our customer below.
Today, I do an experiment with UV light meter(cl200A chroma cannot work at this bands) to measure the brightness at 9-point, so that I can calculate the gain and bias at each point.
But my wondering is how can transfer this data to DMD?
Do we have commands for that?
Regards,
Danilo
Hi Danilo,
Let me look into how we might be able to support this for your client. I will reply back here with my findings.

Austin
Hi Austin,
We would like to request an update to our customer's inquiry.
Regards,
Danilo
Hello Danilo,
We do not yet have a method for inputting this calibration data. Thank you for your patience as we continue to investigate this.
Regards,
Austin
Hello Danilo,
I notice that we may not have understood customer question correctly. We understand that they are developing a 3D printer optical engine and image uniformity is concern.
Could you please request customer to describe in detail
- Proposed logic/flow for managing uniformity especially how they intend to use the calibration data.
- The term "inputting calibration data" to DMD is not well understand; a flow chart may be helpful.
Hopefully this will help us respond to their query more effectively.
regards,
Vivek
Hi Vivek,
Thank you for handling this post. Here is the update from our customer.
Pls see below flowchart
uniformity calibration flowchart.xls
1. measure 9-point dark and white fields by UV light meter.
2.calculate the gain and bias at each point.
3. transfer gain and bias to EVM, so that EVM can automatically adjust the uniformity of the screen.
The project is in the early stage of development, I do an experiment, as follow
1. create a uniform image, the grayscale is 179
2.segment it into 9 regions and the grayscale value of each region multiple gain and plus bias, then create a new image
3.project new image by EVM, measure the value with UV light meter.
4.the minimum of all values divided maximum gives the final measure of uniformity, here is 99.1%.
5. extend 9 points to more than 200 points, and complete the uniformity adjustment
But so far it has nothing to do with EVM itself, so I want to know the commands which can directly transfer gains and biases to EVM, or the other way can achieve the same function.

Danilo
Hello Danilo,
Thank you for this information. We will take this into account.

John
Hi John,
We would to request an update to our customer's inquiry.
Regards,
Danilo
Hello Danilo,
We regret to inform you that we cannot support the request for adjusting the 9 point brightness calibration on this EVM. However, this may be possible by reaching out to optical engine manufacturer. In this case that would be Young Optics.

Austin
