Running 50% white test patterns to prevent stuck pixels.

I am looking for information relating to DLP DMD for Digital Cinema products, specifically the TI recommendation for running a 50% white test pattern to prevent stuck pixels.

I am looking for any documentation that explains how this works.

  • I should have said Gray raster pattern and not 50% white.

TI has suggested the F/E unit generates a gray raster pattern for DMD during light-off state.

  • Hello Tim,

Welcome to the E2E forum and thank you for your interest in DLP® technology!

Can you please share which DLP DMD you intent to use? Where do you find the suggestions for generating the gray raster pattern to prevent stuck pixels?

    Regards,

    Lori

  • Lori any one of the DMD's used for Digital Cinema products.  Lets say .98.

After thinking about this question It may be I want more information regarding the intensity modulation used on these products.

PWM information for this specific use.  I dont think I will be able to get that here.

  • Hi Tim,

I'm transferring this E2E thread to the team that can assist.

  • Hello Tim,

The DMD you are interested in using may dictate that answer to your question since different pixel sizes have different mechanical structures.

Could you tell me where you saw the recommendation for 50/50 duty cycle (i.e. gray)?  If you saw this information with regard to some of our Light Control chipsets then the recommendation for Cinema chip my be different.  Often industrial applications show patterns differently than a Cinema type of application.

Please let us know the application and any DMDs in addition to the 0.98" so that we can better assist you.

  • Tim,

All technical data, datasheets, design data, documentation, parts, etc. for DLP Cinema® products is released to licensed customers and partners under NDA and license agreements.  We cannot support Cinema products in public forums.  Unfortunately, we really cannot help you here.

I see that you work for one of our Cinema customers/partners.  If you have technical questions regarding Cinema products from TI, you will need to inquire through your engineering technical support channels; they will contact us via established channels if they need more information.

    Regards,
    Gary
