DLPC900: Lost USB communication

Dear forum members,

We have encountered an issue for the DLPC900 control board of DLP LightCrafter 6500. The DLPC900 control board cannot be detected by the PC via USB connection. When connected to power, the D8 ‘+12V Good’ and D9 ‘POWERGOOD’ LEDs can turn green, but the D6 ‘MASTER GRN’ LED did not shine, as shown in the image below. Moreover, the DLPC900ZPC chip on the control board got hot in a short time. We have tried different PCs but all failed to discover the device.

Do you have any suggestions for fixing this problem? Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi Maxine,

Thank you for your reply! We are using the default firmware that came with the board when we bought it, we have not changed the firmware ourselves. I can't tell the exact firmware version as the control board can't be detected by the computer now. With the default firmware, the board worked fine before. But after one day, the board can no longer be detected by the PC via USB. Later we found out that the flex cable connectted to the DMD was broken, we replaced it with a good one, but the computer still did not detect the control board.

Hi Maxine,

I also reprogram the bootloader image into the flash using JTAG, but the PC can not detect the control board. Moreover, there is a protrusion on the DLPC900ZPC chip, I suspect that the chip is burnt out. May I ask your opinion and suggestions about this problem?

Hello Xin Shu,

Thank you for the information. The protrusion likely indicates thermal damage from when the flex cable originally became damaged. When was this board purchased?

Hello Xin Shu,

Unfortunately, due to the thermal damage, the controller no longer functions correctly and will not recognize any devices. In order have a functioning board, there are two options: a new DLPC900 controller is purchased and a board house replaces the damaged chip on this EVM, or a new EVM is bought.
