DLP4500: DLP direction of mirror when it is black.

HI,

I have a question about the mirror during the period when the LED is not bright.

During the period when the LED in the figure below is not bright(black), does the ON/OFF state of this mirror remain the direction of the previously mirror?

The mirror will likely not remain in the OFF state during this black period. If a light is shown on the mirror, it can be seen moving to ON state before moving back to an OFF state.

This question comes from making the duty cycle 50/50. Even in the case of black, I understand that I have to think about the duty cycle.
If We don't know the direction of the mirror when it's black, is it possible to set ON/OF of the mirror when it's black?

Hello Tazawa-san,

Unfortunately it will not be able to force the mirror one way or the other. I should also correct what I said previously. The mirrors will be in an indeterminate state during the non-illuminated period.

Can you speak on what you are hoping to do with the dark time?

As I told you this question comes from making the duty cycle 50/50.
We should estimate ON/OFF time of mirror then we would like to know mirror state when it is black.
I undestand it is indeterminates but Could you tell me how to estimate the ON/OFF time when it is black.

Hello Tazawa-san,

Can you tell us the specific purpose to know the ON/OFF timing of the mirror?

We may not able to estimate the timing, and you can only read back the DMD mirror status.

This reason why our customer want to estimate Duty cycle.
Please see Figure7-1 in DLP4500 Datasheet.
We understand the Derating Curve in Figure7-1 comes from Duty cycle and temperature.

We think Duty cycle in Figure 7-1 include black timing. Is it correct ?
then we would like to know ON/OFF time when it is black.

Hello Tazawa-san,

There is not way to tell if the mirror state is on or off during the dark time as it will depend on a number of factors including the previous data displayed on the DMD. By describing the mirror state as indeterminate, I mean to say that the state cannot be determined.

I will, however, look into how Figure 7-1 correlates to the non-illumination time.

Tazawa-san,

I have discussed with my colleagues. Figure 7-1 only applies to the illuminated periods as these will be the times when the DMD is receiving temperatures from the LEDs. The non-illuminated periods should not be considered when calculating the Max DMD Temperature.
