DLP4710EVM-LC: The projection patterns from the left and right sides of the DMD are not synchronized

Part Number: DLP4710EVM-LC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4710

Hi,

We used a third-party designed DLP4710 projector in our structured-light scanner, which is similar to the DLP4710EVM.

The DLP system is set to,

light control application,

internal pattern streaming mode,

1D pattern, 1-bit depth,

and external trigger.

Occasionally, the left and right projection of DMD are asynchronous, and the stripes from the 2 sides are different. Sometimes, the projection from the master side will be 1-pattern ahead of the slave side. What are the possible causes of this problem?

Look forward to the reply.
Thanks.

  • Hello User,

Can you provide the manufacturer name and a link to their system on their website?

What version of the FW are you using? What  version of the GUI are you using if you are using it at all?

Can you get a photo or video of the behavior happening?

    Best,

    John

  • Hi John,

    Appreciate for your quick reply!

The optical module is 1986MS-AA, which is from IVIEW.
And here is the link to the DLP controller card,
    www.tirvideo.com/.../81.html

The GUI version is 2.2.0.5. However, we can't get the FW version.

A video and some images of the abnomal projection are shown below.

  • Hello Brutus,

You should be able to get the EVM firmware version on the Information page if you are using DLPDLC-GUI

Do you only see the issue with internal pattern mode?

    Regards,

    Lori

  • Hi Lori,

    Thank you for your reply!

The EVM firmware version is 1.1.0.

Only internal pattern steaming mode is used in our device, therefore, we don't experience this issue in other modes.

    BR,

    Brutus

  • Hi Brutus,

Our team is looking into this and get to you by middle of this week.

    Regards,

    Akhil

  • Hello Brutus,

Can you please answer few more questions below?

    1. Can you say where you receive the firmware version 1.1.0? The latest image file available on the TI DLP® Pico Firmware Selector Tool is v8.1.1. Can you try to update the firmware to the latest version?

    2.  In internal pattern streaming mode, are you in run continuously mode or pause and hold steps? Have you seen the issue on either or both modes?

    3. Do you have more details about the pattern configurations and timings that you have seen the issue?

    Regards,

    Lori

  • Hello Lori

    Sorry for the late reply!

We got the firmware from the DMD control board supplier.

Before the delivery of DMD control boards, the firmware had been embedded in them.

The projectors only operate in 'run once' mode.

There are 3 pattern sets loaded into the projectors,

Pattern Set (1):      8-bit      Horizontal Pattern       4 Patterns

Pattern Set (2):      1-bit      Horizontal Pattern       9 Patterns

Pattern Set (3)   1-bit      Horizontal Pattern       15 Patterns

The timing settings are shown as below.

Could you please provide some details about the DMD sub-LVDS transmission?

        How does sub-LVDS transmission work?

Is there a checksum to detect Sub-LVDS transmission errors?

If a transmission error occurs, will the DMD module stop projecting?

    Thank you.

     BR,

    Brutus

  • Hello Brutus,

Could you please download the latest firmware from: https://software-dl.ti.com/dlp/pico-fw-selector/

And try updating it with GUI as per Lori's request.

    Regards,

    Akhil

  • Hi Akhil

I updated firmware to the latest version, and the new EVM firmware information could be uploaded to the GUI.

However, I failed to set internal patterns, because the GUI couldn’t get access to the I2C bus.

Then I turned off and turned on the DLP driver board to restart it. But it couldn’t start up.

Therefore, I had to download the previous firmware to the DLP driver.

Are there any other possible causes apart from the firmware?

    BR

  • Hello Brutus,

Allow us to look into the pattern settings you have provided.

    Regards,

    John

  • Hello Brutus,

If you see the EVM status shows as connected, powered off, it likely caused by the image file getting corrupted when programming. Can you please try re-programming the EVM one or two more times with only switching SW28 and without pushing SW21 with latest version v8.1.1?

    Regards,

    Lori
