Slowing down the pico projector

All of the documentation describes the pico projector (0.17" pico kit) running at 60 Hz.     I presume it will not run faster, but can I run it more slowly?

If I reduce the master clock rate, is there any reason why I cannot run the entire system at 40 Hz?    or slower?     Is there a lower limit where performance or lifetime is impacted?

thank you,

  • James,

It may be possible to run the Pico Kit v2 at a video rate of 40 Hz. I haven't tried it. However, see the DLP Pico Chipset v2 Programmer's Guide (http://www.ti.com/litv/pdf/dlpu002a) section 1.3.1.19. The notes say:

    (1)

Generally, when displaying externally generated 50 Hz or 60 Hz sources, “lock to incoming sync” will

produce the best results. In this mode, display frame reads are synchronous with input write frames.

    (2)

For input frames less than 50 Hz, or internal splash screens, or internal test patterns, internally

generated sync mode should be used.

    (3)

If “lock to incoming sync mode” is selected but the source does not supply a valid vertical sync signal,

    Perhaps this will help.

    Best regards,
