DLP471TP: Understanding the landed edge and light paths

Hi Experts,

Seeking your assistance on this query about DLP471TP.

I am not sure I am understanding the landed edge and light paths.

Because it makes contradiction with what I know for other DLPs such DLP7000.

Can you give me a detailed answer how mirror is titled in the 3D or like the one shown below

    Welcome back to the forum.

    I am asking if my colleagues have useful material that can be share. The short story is that the mirror rotates to direct the light up (or at you) when the pixel is in the "on" state. The landing edge is down and touching the bottom surface under the mirror. In the "off" state, the mirror is rotated so that the off-state landing edge is touching the surface below the mirror, reflecting the light to the upper left corner.

    Could you kindly clarify it more by sharing a diagram because it is not clear to me the difference between these two statements "bottom surface under the mirror" and "surface below the mirror,".

    In another words, I need to know how much to rotate mirror, around which axis, so that I can simulate the light propagation in the whole system including my projection optics? Is there a document or a patent clarifies the idea?

    There is no difference between the statements. I was restating the same concept for both states. Borrowing the image that you posted, the landing edges are pointed out with red arrows.

    I am still working with the team in an attempt to find documentation that may better clarify the concepts, but the DLP471TP datasheet contains information regarding the mirror angles (see Section 6.11).

    For information on the angles and movement of the DLP471TP, please refer to Section 4.1, "DLP TRP Pixel Architecture," of the Optical Engine Reference Design for DLP3010 Digital Mircomirror Device. Though this document is for the DLP3010, the concept remains the same for the DLP471TP. However, it is worth noting that the light paths differ slightly. The light path image that you shared initially shows the correct angles.

    I do not have a 3D model I can supply, but a short animation in the How To Display Video & Control Light Using DLP® Technology video may be useful to see the mirror movement. The animation that I mention begins at timestamp 0:45 and lasts until 1:02.
