I already read with deep interest some questions/answers inside the forum about DMD use. Thanks all

Actually I still have a wonder about the speed response of DMD in Load4 Mode. I understood that each mirror can switch in 4 us from reset state to ON and than it settles up to ON state in other about 12 us.

When I load with identical data the block, the command will be performed by the mirrors of the block at the same time all togheter? Or each mirror will tilt sequentially from the first up to the last one?

I.e. if I illuminate the block with a small spot of light I'll see the brightness passing from 100% to 0% in 4-12 us or I'll see a sequence of gray steps of 12us each starting at 100% up to 0% ?

The timing rule of such an operation in case applies also to the blocks of the reset command?

The device I'm keeping in mind is a DLP550HE (mirror pitch 13.6um - 800x600) or any similar device.

Hello Guido,

When issuing a Load4 command, this will only load the binary data into the DMD CMOS memory cells. You would have to perform a reset to cause mirrors to change from the current state to the state of that in the memory address.

When you perform a load (and reset) command, each row (block) of the DMD gets loaded with the binary data at the same time. With this being the case, you should see the brightness passing from 100% to 0% in 4-12us.

Dear Tristan,

thanks a lot for the exaustive answer. One more question if I can: Load4 is the largest block I can command at once time on the DMD or I could set other larger commands? is it depending on the type of DMD or it is a general feature of the DMD technology?

Guido,

The load4 command capability comes from the DLPC410 and DLPC910 controllers. Each controller supports various DMDs (i.e., the DLPC410 controller supports the DLP9500, DLP7000 and DLP650LNIR DMDs). Due to the capabilities of performing a Load4, this would be the largest block a user can command at once, if using the load4 command. To learn more about load4 and its functionality, refer to Section 8.4.3 of the DLPC410 Datasheet and feel free to always reach back out on E2E forum with further questions!
