DLP2010NIR: the questions for DMD tilt angle tolerance

Part Number: DLP2010NIR
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPNIRNANOEVM

HI,

We are focusing on the optical subassembly of optical  communication, and studying the possibility of the DMD applied on our products. however, there are some questions need your help, which as the following shows.

The DLP2010nir can meet our partial requirements, however the tilt angle tolerance is not perfect(+/-1°), From the internet, I know the DMD pixel tilt axis is a thin hinge layer,  do the tilt angle tolerance is caused by the hinge? And do the angle inconsistencies between piexls only exist on the tilt direction? How about the pixels angle consistency of the tilt axis direction on one DMD device? It is important for us to get a good angle consistency on one direction (tilt or the vertical direction) between pixels on one DMD device,  becasue there is a high angle sensitive in one dirction but the vertical direction angle is insensitive in our products.

Some papers show a possibility of the DMD pixels' continuous and controlled rotation in a small tilt angle case, but the DMD need a tunable analog voltage. Does TI DMD also have the same ability if dirve circuit  could provide the analog voltage? As my understanding, if we want to acquire the ability of tunable angle, the semiconductor process needn't to be changed, but need to change the circuit package, is it right?

  • Hello User,

Welcome to the E2E forum and thank you for your interest in DLP® technology.

I am reaching out to my DMD engineer for a bit more background on the 2010NIR tilt angle tolerances. We will be able to provide feedback by the end of the week.

    Regards,

    Austin

  • Hello,

I have been discussing this inquiry with our DMD team.

There are a number of factors that contribute to the tilt angle variation, including the hinge.

We are not able to adjust the mirror angle with an analog voltage. The DMD requires a specific waveform to control.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

    Regards,

    Austin

  • Hi,

Thanks for your reply, as your said, the DMD pixels angle tolerance direction is uncertainty, is it right? The pixel tilt angle tolerance which is discussed should be at the state of ON or OFF, how about the Park state?  If the DMD mirrors surf flatness is  good enough on the park state, it is still useful for us.

  • Hello,

I am not sure what is being asked in the first question. There is a small variation in the angle.

I will ask about the tilt variation during the park state.

    Regards,

    Austin

  • Hello,

The mirrors are in a flat state during park, so tilt angle variation does not apply.

I need to make a correction to my previous statement. The +/- 1 degree tilt angle variation is across lots. The variation on mirror tilt is around 0.2 degrees. The DMD mirrors will be very close if scanning across mirrors on the DMD.

    Kind regards,

    Austin

  • Hi,

How to understand the flat state during park? Can you provide the detail specification parameters to describe the flat state?

We pay the attention to one DMD mirrors' angle variation, the difference between DMDs is not important for us, If the flatness in the park state on one DMD is good enough (such as less than 0.02°),although there is a big tilt angle variation in the state of ON and OFF, it can still be applied to our product..

  • Hello,

Please allow the team time to look into your questions and get back to you. Thank you for your time and patience.

    Regards,

    John

  • Hello,

We do not have data on the flat mirror angles during the park state. Please note that flat state is a non-operational state and not light should be shown onto the DMD in these instances. The mirror is only reflecting during the on or off states

As a small correction, the on and off states have a tilt angle variation of 0.2 degrees (not 0.02 degrees).

    Kindly,

    Austin

  • Hi,

Thanks, and I want to purchase one DLP2010nir and the supporting evaluation board, however, I cannot find the evaluation board for DLP2010nir, but find a DLPNIRNANOEVM which include the DLP2010nir, can you provide the order link for the evaluation board?

  • Hello,

The DLPNIRNANOEVM is the TI-supported evaluation board for the DLP2010NIR. If you would like to purchase and evaluate a DLP2010NIR, this EVM is currently the only one available from TI.com. However, other EVMs containing the DLP2010NIR are available from Optecks if they suit your application better.

    Best,

    Maxine

  • If I perchase the EVM, I would like to take down the optical part from the DLP controller Board, but I want to retain the DMD Board on the DLP controller Board, can I do it? If not, can I perchase a new DMD board?

  • Hello Xie,

You should be able to use the DMD board from the EVM. TI does not sale parts of components for the EVM.

    regards,

    Vivek
