DLPC3470: Questions about splash pattern mode

Part Number: DLPC3470
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP2010LC, DLP3010LC, DLPC3478

Dear TI experts,

My customer tests the modules with the combinations below ;

- DLPC3470(FW v7.3.1)+DLP2010LC

- DLPC3478(FW V8.0.1)+DLP3010LC

and we found that in Splash Pattern Mode, we can irradiate the light only monochrome, not RGB pattern.

1. Is it possible to irradiate RGB pattern sequentially after few monochrome splash pattern passed?

2. now my customer tests splash pattern to merge splash image and firmware binary using DLP firmware editor, and download to the device.

Is it possible to write(download) only splash pattern to the device, not merge to whole firmware binary?

If it can, what is the memory size for download splash image? Is it possible to download more than 1 splash image if the memory allows?

3. Does any customer use only splash pattern to operate DMD module? Can you provide the image sensor information and irradiating only monochrome or also RGB?

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hello Chase,

Welcome back to the E2E forums.

    1. The splash pattern mode uses the images stored in the flash. If the splash pattern mode do not support RGB patterns, then you are not able to display RGB patterns after monochrome patterns. However, you have option to use internal pattern mode to load monochrome and RGB patterns in two pattern sets. You can find more information in the E2E FAQ here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp-products-group/dlp/f/dlp-products-forum/729968/faq-light-control-evms-dlp4710evm-lc-dlp3010evm-lc-and-dlp2010evm-lc

    2. Does the customer use GUI -> Firmware -> Edit Firmware tool to upload custom splash screens and generate custom image file? If yes, there are some known issues with the Edit Firmware tool in GUI. Our team have fixed these issues and in the process of testing and releasing the new GUI version.

I'm uncertain to your question " Is it possible to write(download) only splash pattern to the device, not merge to whole firmware binary?". The user is able to upload the splash screens in the flash. They need to reflash the EVM or custom board with the new custom image file (as .img extension).

    3. Do you have more information on why you only want to use splash pattern mode? What's the applications?

    Regards,

    Lori

  • Dear Lori,

    Thank you for your support.

My customer uses splash pattern mode because they can process more quickly than internal pattern mode.

and here are more questions from my customer.

    1. Please confirm again that my customer cannot use RGB pattern in splash pattern mode.

    2. my customer said that there is little time delay when they switch a mode between splash pattern mode and internal pattern mode.

Is there any way to reduce(or remove) this time delay  when changing the mode? what is minimum and maximum time delay?

    3. The user is able to upload the splash screens in the flash. They need to reflash the EVM or custom board with the new custom image file

-> then my customer need to write whole image file if they want to change splash screens in the flash, not just image file. Please confirm it.

    Best regards,

    Chase

  • Hello Chase,

    1. For light control - Splash pattern mode, there is limitation to use RGB pattern. I think you have option to use Display - splash screens. However, as you mentioned in question 3, if you need to change different splash screens which are not pre-loaded in the flash, then you will need to upload the splash screens in the flash and reflash the EVM or the custom board. I'm not sure how often your customer wants to change the splash screens.

    2. Are you using GUI or running a script to switch operating modes? We don't have a specification for the delay between mode transitions and I don't think you can reduce or remove the delay.

    3. Please refer to answer 1.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Lori
