DLPDLCR471TPEVM: Failed to update image, and dlp evm does not work now

Hi,

I downloaded DLP471TP_EVM_v3.2.2_MCU_FW4.5.0.img from ti.com, and connected the DLP EVM GUI 3.1.0.7.exe via USB, then I chose the DLPDLCR471TPEVM as well as usb connection. After I clicked update firmware button , it appeared failure notification. And now the DLP can get into the bootloader mode, but can not read any information if click get button. Please help!

Hello Jeff,

On the product page for the DLPDLCR471TPEVM there is a EVM GUI Tool UG. If you go to page seven there should be a troubleshooting section.

If the GUI does not want to connect on the Information page go to the Debug page on the left side and establish a connection. This should save those settings for you.

Hello John,

There are two issues (maybe only one):

Q1: DLPDLCR471TPEVM can not get any parameters although can connect via USB well.

Q2: DLPDLCR471TPEVM also can not update image of course.

So can you tell me how to solve the updating image issue, if this is fixed, all issues could be fixed. Thanks for your help again.

Hi Jeff,

Please try to update the GUI to latest version 3.2.0.6 in DLPDLC-GUI page and check if it will resolve your issue.

Jeff,

Kindly try updating the firmware by forcing the EVM into Boot Hold mode via J9 jumper connection.

This will force the controller to go into boot-hold mode and will enable the USB connection. If that too doesn't work, then it implies that you might have corrupted the bootloader section of the firmware, in that case you will have to flash the bootloader firmware via JTAG interface.

Forcing the EVM into Boot Hold mode did not work. Please share me the guidence of how to flash the bootloader firmware via JTAG interface as well as the tools. Thanks in advance!

Can you say what went wrong during the attempt to for EVM into Boot Hold mode? Was this an error message or hardware behavior?

Below are the instructions to put the sytem in Bootloader mode using the BOOT_HOLD jumper J9.

1. Power off the EVM

2. Connect the BOOT_HOLD jumper J9 on the formatter board with controller

3. Connect the USB cable from your PC to EVM for communication with EVM GUI

4. Power on the EVM and check the Connection status in EVM GUI

5. If you are able to see the connection then try flashing with the latest firmware available on ti.com

Only if you are not able to communicate you might need to use the JTAG to program the bootloader. Refer to the user's guide for more information
