DLPC3438: How to flash an image to a DLP board which flash nothing before smt?

Hi ,

I developed a DLP3010/DLPC3438/DLPA3005 board, and the i2c interface which connects both dlpc and it6801 is opened and can be communicate with other boards/tools. My question is all ICs were not flashed any image/firmware before SMT, what shall I do if I want to flash image to this board? Hope to hear from you asap, thanks in advance!

Hi Austin,

I should write the firmware in norFlash before this flash IC is assembled. My question is all ICs were not writed any firmware before assembled, what shall I do if I want to flash image to this board via i2s or SPI?

Hello User,

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly.

If you want to program the DLPC3438, and you have a USB port on your design board, then you should be able to program the controller with the firmware image file from Firmware Selector Tool by using DLP LightCrafter Display GUI.

You also have option to flash a SPI device by using SOIC clip. Please refer to [FAQ] SPI Flash Device with SOIC Clip Guide for corrupted devices.

Hi Lori,

This PCB board doesn't include usb bridge to cost down, so first method won't work. The second method you metioned is a bit complecated as I shold take the flash off , wirte the firmware into the chip and assemble the ic again . Is there any ohter convinient method? Such any method of updating via jtag or iic?

Hello Jeff,

There is only a SPI interface to the flash device. This can be accessed through the controller using the DLPC GUI that Lori mentions above. However, this method needs a DLPC that can boot.

The second method should not require that the flash device be removed. The clip can be use a device that is soldered onto a PCB so long as the PCB is not powered.

Unfortunately there is not simpler method that we can offer besides these two above.
