DLP471TP: EVM: How to achieve 240 Hz refresh rate?

Part Number: DLP471TP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC6540, DLPC4422

Hi E2E team,

we want to run DLP471TPEVM at 1920x1080@240 Hz, which should be supported by DLPC6540/DLP417TP.

EVM itself runs fine, including GUI v.3.2.0.6.

We feed HDMI2.0 signal from a NVIDIA Quadro RTX4000 and see 2160p@60 as well as 1920x1080@60.

EDID does not contain a 1920x1080@240Hz mode, when feeding a custom 240 Hz mode such as

 PixelClock=599.574 MHz, HActive 1920, HSyncStart 2112, HSyncEnd, 2204, HTotal, 2292, VActive 1080, VSyncStart 1085, VSyncEnd 1086 VTotal 1090

D1 on the Formatter board goes on (V-by-One LOCK = TRUE), but no image is displayed.

I assume that we need a mode which is accepted by the DLPC6540 and probably an EDID which contains this mode. How should we proceed?

Thank you,

Matt

  • Hello Matt,

Welcome back to the E2E forum. Thank you for your continued business!

We are looking into your question and will get back to you within the next few days.

    Best,

    Maxine

  • Hi Matthias,

Please use the latest firmware version v4.5.0 available on ti.com.

You should be able to display by default 1080 240hz source without any issues.

Could you please let us know how you verified that there is no EDID for 240Hz? the ITE card in front end board should have this supported.

We will try to share a working 240Hz source timings for you reference in few days.

    Regards,
    Akhil

  • Hi Akhil,

thank you for your reply, we verified the EDID through the GPU driver (NVIDIA Linux), but will double check. Today we succeeded in creating a custom 1080p240 timing using 583.2 MHz pixel clock (Linux modeline 583.2 1920 1928 1960 2000 1080 1201 1209 1215), which works so far, however would greatly prefer to use an "official" TI timing.

One more question (please let me know if I should post that separately): We have our own FPGA-based custom frontend with an 8-lane Vx1 output which we use with the DLPC4422 EVM. In the next step we want to connect this also to the DLP471TPEVM. Can we use the same Vx1 parameters, especially 10 bits per colour?

    Thank you,

    Matthias

  • Hi Matthias,

We will share the 240 Hz source timings and look into your question in a few days.

    Regards,

    Lori

  • Hi Matthias,

Good to know that you are able to get a working 240Hz source timings. FYI we do not have any custom official timings need to maintained. All VESA timings should be working fine with the EVM. SO, You can continue to use the same timings it won't create any issues.

For DLPC6540, We have an command to configure the Vx1 parameters. You can use this command to configure accordingly with same Vx1 parameters even the 10bits per color(30bpp RGB).

    Regards,

    Akhil
