DLPLCR65EVM: Board compatibility with previous DMD DLP6500 devices

Part Number: DLPLCR65EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP6500FYE

Hi TI,

I'm wondering if there is any way to use an old DLP6500 DMDs with DLPLCR65EVM + DLPLCR900EVM?

I have a couple of 6500 DMDs (1910-6039E) and would like to use these DMDs with a new board.

Thank you in advance.

Best,

Yun

  • Yun,

Where did the 6500 DMDs come from?  The part number you show indicates that this part is a Display DMD (i.e. a consumer projector DMD) and will not work.

  • Hi Fizix,

Thank you for your answer. Then I have to ask what's the difference between the regular DMD vs. Display DMD? I tested both DMDs using a matching EVM board and there were no difference in performance.

  • Hello Yun,

What EVM board did you use for testing.  The Display DMD would be the "regular" and the DLP6500FYE is a Light Control DMD.  The Light Control DMDs are paired with Light Control controllers that provide special capabilities for non-video applications.

  • Thank you Fizix.

The other EVM was obtained from another DLP projector manufacturer and it looks very similar to the previous generation EVM, DLP6500EVM. It also works totally okay with DLP LightCrafter GUI. I also have used it for Video pattern mode as well.

You said the 6500FYE is different from Display DMD for non-video applications. Do you mean only 6500FYE can be used for patter on the fly mode?

  • Yun,

I was going by the part number provided.  Some of the early parts did not yet have DLP6500FYE on them, but the part number you provided traced back to a Display part.

If it works with the GUI at all then it should work in all modes.  If the controller shows "Controller/DMD Incompatible" then it will not work in any mode.

What is the model/part number on the EVM obtained from the DLP projector manufacturer?
