DLPLCR4500EVM: Swap DLP4500 for DLP4500NIR

Part Number: DLPLCR4500EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4500NIR, DLP4500, DLPC350

Hello all,

I intend to use the DLPLCR4500EVM as a Spatial Light Modulator for lasers at 940 nm. This means removing the optical engine and leaving the DMD bare.

Additionally, I would be interested to swap the native DLP4500 with a DLP4500NIR. Is this possible in the first place? If so, is this as simple as removing the DLP4500 and pushing the DLP4500NIR in the socket, without e.g. firmware updates etc.?

Another issue is that DLPLCR4500EVM is seemingly only provided with FQE connectors and the DLP4500NIR only wiht FQD connectors. Is it possible to somehow interface the two, perhaps via a ribbon or interface board also sold by TI?

Many thanks for any help in advance.

  • Hello Matteo Fissore,

Welcome to the E2E forums and we hope to assist you with your questions.

As you mentioned, there is a difference between connectors so the DMDs will not be directly swappable. The DLPLCR4500EVM uses a FQE package connector for the DLP4500 in the schematic which is the ATX580124. This is going to be different from the FQD package connector used by the DLP4500NIR.

We do not have any sort of adapter or interface board to my knowledge.

The firmware should be the same as the DLPC350 can support both the DLP4500 and DLP4500NIR. The latest firmware is here: https://www.ti.com/tool/DLPR350

You can contact our EVM manufacturer, EKB technologies here: https://www.ekbtechnologies.com/ They build the complete EVM and also offer NIR options. You can see if they sell NIR DMD driver boards.

    Regards,
