DLP4710EVM-LC: Can't project or display any light/pattern

Part Number: DLP4710EVM-LC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4710LC

Hi,

I'm using a DLP projector from Wintech named PRO4710LC-405-92. It uses the DLP4710EVM-LC, and at first I managed to project a purplish light via the DLP LightCrafter Display v7.4 - 4710EVM GUI (I always seem to get the following error message too):

At that point I could run the splash pattern and even display external video, but as I attempted to project other colors (I only ever managed to display the purplish light), the projector stopped displaying any kind of output altogether.

As far as I know, the only thing I ever changed was the firmware version, I've tried with 7.0.1, 8.0, 8.1.0 and 8.0.1, but no matter what I do I can't get the projector to display anything.

While powering the projector the following pins light up, including the pin D36 which I've searched and apparently indicates that the projector is connected to the PCB:

I also switched to DLP EVM GUI 3.2.0.6 as I seem to get more data in this interface:

I don't know if there is something wrong with the projector itself, if it's the firmware version that causes the issue, or if there's something else I've been doing wrong, but I would thank any suggestion that might shed some light on the matter.

  • Hello Miguel,

We will get back to you early next week. This is holiday week.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    regards,

    Vivek

  • Hello Miguel,

The error pictured in the lightcrafter GUI is most likely because the DLP 4710-LC EVM is not supported by that GUI. To give you a little more information, the DLP LightCrafter Display GUI is meant for our Display chipsets. The LC chipsets however use our light control GUI named DLP EVM GUI. So the second GUI you downloaded is correct.

I notice at the bottom of your second screenshot the GUI says "EVM Status Ready; External Video Port". Could you try switching the EVM's display mode by going to Display->Patterns and Images and pressing Color Bars -> Set? This should display a test pattern with bars colored black, blue, red, magenta, green, cyan, yellow, and white.

    Best,

    Maximus

  • Hello Maximus,

I contacted the projector manufacturer's support and they sent me the correct Firmware version. Turns out the projector is custom, and hence can only display UV light (not RGB colors), this also means that it's pretty much incompatible with any of the FW versions provided by Texas Instruments.

After flashing Wintech's version, it finally turned on!

For anyone interested, the correct FW for this projector is PRO4710LC_DLP4710LC_BlueOnly_V20230324.

Thanks a lot for the feedback nonetheless!
