DLPC3478: 1bit pattern issue

Part Number: DLPC3478
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPA2005,

Dear TI members

I am using DLPC3478, DLPA2005 and DLPC3010LC. and found the abnormal symptom with 1 bit Pattern.

Test Condition : External Bus 24bit, Beam FW - 8bit 3 Patterns Per Frame.

The bean projection illumination shape appears abnormal due to the pattern confoguration.

Condition 1) Gray Code (1bit)+ RGB Square (All white)  + Phase Shift Pattern(8bit) , OK

Condition 2) Mixed 1bit pattern configuration  , Momentary Tremor

(The frames that tremble momentarily vary depending on the configuration of the 1-bit pattern)

Condition 3) All same pattern (1bit) , Continuous pattern deformation defect from beam projection

Condition 4) All same pattern (1bit)  , Continuous pattern deformation defect from beam projection

Common) All same conditions (Viewer, Beam FW, FPGA FW) except pattern group and light direction.

The beam projection area is larger than the camera capture area.

Please refer to attached files and advise.

  • Hello Kim,

Welcome back to the E2E forum. Thank you for your continued business!

We are looking into the issue and will get back to you in a few days with our findings.

    Best,

    Maxine

  • Hello Kim,

    Could you clarify the following:

1.Is this a custom board or are you using an EVM?

2.Are you using the latest firmware version: 9.0.1?

3.Can you explain in a little more detail what is different(other than the changed patterns) between each case? Especially between case 2, 3 and, 4.

    4. I would also suggest scoping the Trig 1 and Trig 2 pins to make sure you are getting the expected output.

    Best,

    Maximus

  • Dear Rusi

    Thank you for your reply.

    Did you see attached files?

1.Is this a custom board or are you using an EVM?

[ES] Custom Board. FPGA <--> DLP3478  , External Interface Bus

2.Are you using the latest firmware version: 9.0.1?

[ES]  Yes. I checked 2 firmware that are 8.0 and 9.0.1.

3.Can you explain in a little more detail what is different(other than the changed patterns) between each case? Especially between case 2, 3 and, 4.

[ES]  As I mentioned , it was happened the issues under conditions of  2/3/4 patterns.

Did you see the attached files?

Condition 2) Mixed 1bit Pattern Configurations

The pattern of beam : Momentary Tremor ( The frames that treble monentarly vary depending on the configuration of the 1bit pattern.

Condition 3/4) All same 1bit pattern.

After a cerrain period, the beam projection survey configuration changes. The alered pattern shape is visible to the naked eye.

    4. I would also suggest scoping the Trig 1 and Trig 2 pins to make sure you are getting the expected output.

: I checked trigger out for DLPC3478. The Trigger signal was OK.

  • Hi Kim,

Thank you for the information, I have seen your attached slides and videos. I'd like to recreate this issue on my end, could you also send me the timings you are using in the GUI?

    Best,

    Maximus

  • Hi LP Kim,

Could you give us more detail on the following:

1.How are the cameras setup to capture this?

2.What timings are you using in the internal pattern control mode?

3.Could you test this with a vertical pattern and let us know if you experience this issue?

    Best,

    Maximus

  • Dear Rusi

I'm late for the reply and will be update data that you requested as soon as possible.

2.What timings are you using in the internal pattern control mode?

[LP KIM] I am using the external interface mode. 8bit x 3 frame.

3.Could you test this with a vertical pattern and let us know if you experience this issue?

[LP KIM] If I change the horizontal  light direction & horizontal pattern (or the vertical light direction & vertical pattern) instead of direction horizontal light direction & horizontal pattern , i don't see issue by now.

    Best & Regards

  • Hi LP Kim,

To clarify, you are using external mode via hdmi?

    Best,

    Maximus

  • Dear Maximus Rusi

To clarify, you are using external mode via hdmi?

    [LP KIM]

I am using the external mode with FPGA.

  • Hello LP Kim,

Could you send us your design files to review? I have sent you a friend request so we can continue this discussion via private message.

    Best,

    Maximus

  • Dear Maximus Rusi

Could you send us your design files to review?

[LP KIM] Do you want to get HW Design file such as PCB and schematic?

Because it isn't to happen to issue under different pattern configuration and all same 8bit Pattern, I think that it isn't not hardware issue.

    CASE1) 1bit , all same : Issue

    CASE2) 8bit , all same : No Issue

CASE3) 1bit, same pattern mixing : No issue

    Thanks

  • Dear Maximus Rusi

1.How are the cameras setup to capture this?

    [LP KIM]

    Our product : Trigger mode , 3 frame *  20Hz= 60fps.
    Mobile phone : captured

I can see the issue from our product beam the naked eye directly.

    Thanks

  • Hi LP Kim,

Thank you for the information. We are currently working on your question and will get back to you by next week.

    Regards,

    Lori

  • Hi LP Kim,

Are you able to reproduce these issues on a TI EVM? Could you also try these test using internal pattern control and seeing if you see the same issue?

    Best,

    Maximus

  • Dear Maximus Rusi

I will check the issue usign TI EVM with the same pattern configuration.

    Thanks

    Best Regards

  • Hi LP Kim,

Thank you, please let us know if you see the same behavior.

    Best,

    Maximus
