Industrial projector DMD identification

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC410, DLPLCR95EVM, DLPLCRC410EVM

Hello all,

i'm trying to identify the DMD of a industrial monochrome projector. Markings have been removed exept "30N" at the front and "790" at the rear side of the chip. Is there any way to identify this dmd in a way so a suitable controller can be selected?

  • Hello Manuel,

Definitely could be challenging without the numbers.  Can you tell us anything about what system it came out of?  Brand? etc . . .

Several DMDs can share a common package style.  It looks like a 0.95 1080p DMD or even a 0.96 WUXGA DMD but there are others.

A second complication is there are industrial DMDs keyed to work with our industrial controllers, but if it is not an industrial DMD then it will not work with the industrial controller.

  • Hello Fizix,

the dmd/projector is used in a "Steinbichler" 3d scanner. The company has been bought by Zeiss in 2015. Zeiss will not sell me spare parts for the scanner and they will not give me technical support. I would like to reuse the projector because I'm a student and can't affort to buy a high resolution DLP-EVM at the moment.

The LED light source and the DMD controller board are seperate pcbs. The DMD controller has RJ45 ethernet and CAN Bus connection. On the controller board there are 2 FPGAs: 1x Xilinx spartan-6 and 1x Virtex-5 XC5VLX30. Also there are two DLP DAD2000 chips. All of the controller pcbs seem to be custom made for this projector/scanner.

On the DMD there is a barely noticable labeling which I tried to capture.

  • Hello Manuel,

This is almost certainly a DLPC410 controller based system.  There is no  way to distinguish if it is a 0.95 1080P DMD or a 0.96 WUXGA DMD (but most likely 1080p Type A)

What part of the system is not working.  Also, can you see a small chip near the Virtex 5 LX30 with a white sticker on it?  If so can you report that value?

  • Manuel,

I tried looking up the lot number from the image, but the part is old enough that it is no longer in the system.  However, it does appear from the"30N" you provided from the front of the DMD and the "790" on the back that this is a 0.96" WUXGA TypeA DMD which uses a DLPC410 controller.

  • Found the chip - the value is 2510442-0005

  • Hello Manuel,

This confirms that the system is a DLPC410 system and the version on that PROM is rev 5.

The DLPLCRC410EVM board is $1999 US and the DLPLCR95EVM is $3999 which comes with a 0.95 1080P Type A DMD in it.

There are third party companies like Dli that carry the DMD board with flex cables.  The are around $2700 US from them.

You could see if ViALUX in Europe has any availability of parts.

The other option is to look at auction sites for used equipment.

  • Hello Fizix, thank you very much. I'll read the docs on the DLPLCRC410EVM.

I'll have to resort to used equipment because of my very limited budget. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to get used components.

  • Manuel,

Hopefully you can find some used equipment.  We wish you success in your endeavor.
