DLP3010: DLP3010

Part Number: DLP3010
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , DLPC3433, , DLPC3478, DLPA2005, DLPA3000

For the development of desktop dental 3D scanner, I have identified two EVM for the DLP3010. One is DLP Lightcrafter Display 3010 EVM and the other is  DLP3010 Light Control EVM. Which one is suitable for our application? What are the advantages of one over the other?

  • Hello Abdul,

Welcome to DLP forum and thank you for your interest in DLP technology.

The dental scanner application requires structured light projection. Our 3D scan and Machine vision portfolio is targeted for such application.

The DLP3010EVM-LC is the EVM for this application.

  • Thank you for your kind response. I have identified DLP lightcrafter Display 3010 EVM also. I have seen pattern generation option available in GUI. Let me know why this not suitable for pattern projection

  • Hello Adbul,

The DLP is a chipset solution. It includes a controller, DMD and Power Management IC (PMIC). They are designed for specific application likes scanning (structured light), display or 3D print. The controller along with firmware provide the needed functionality for a target application.

One of the DLP chipset for scanning application is DLPC3478 controller, DLP3010LC and a supporting PMIC IC.   The equivalent display chipset is DLPC3433, DLP3010 DMD and PMIC IC. In case of display chipset, the input image undergoes series of image processing to enhance visual experience for human eye. As a result, user does not have controller over pixels. Whereas in case of structured light application, this image processing is by-passed, and user has controller over the pixel to project accurate patterns.

DLP3010EVM-LC is based on DLPC3478 controller, DLP3010LC DMD and DLPA2005 PMIC. It is targeted for scanning/structured light application.

The DLP3010EVM-G2 is based on DLPC3433 controller, DLP3010 DMD and DLPA3000 PMIC. It is targeted for display application.

The GUI provides method to control and communicate with EVM. The actual functionality is supported by the controller used in the EVM.

Hope this explains why you should not use the DLP3010EVM-G2 for scanning application. You may be able show a pattern, but the image would have undergone image processing and may not truly represent the pattern in terms of pixel and light intensity (gray value).

    regards,

    Vivek
