DLP650LNIR: DMD angle

Part Number: DLP650LNIR

Is it possible to use a DMD (either this one or another product) between 0 and 12deg rather than between -12deg and +12deg?

  • Hi again ,

DMDs are bistable and technically only have two states when data is loaded: "off" or "on,". The DMD will either "dump" the light, or it will project the light onto your projection surface. The rapid PWM of the micromirrors, sometimes with some image processing, will determine what the output looks like.

When you "float" the mirrors, however, the mirrors will then go to a nominally flat state between "on" and "off." This is considered a parked state where the mirrors are unbiased, and you would not be able to show proper pattern data doing this.

May I ask you if you had a specific reason for asking this? Thanks!

  • Hi Michael,

The reason that I ask, is that the use-case that we have in mind would benefit from a 0 degree configuration due to the possibility of aligning the DMD in the focal plane of an optical setup where different parts of the image could be turned "on" or "off", with the "on" configuration at 0 degrees such that there is minimal difference in path length between light incident on different pixels. As I understand your response, there is no such setting as the pixels may or may not be at the same angle in the "float" state?
