DLPA2005: LED Current Sense Resistor measurement with VLED load switch control

Part Number: DLPA2005
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP3010, DLPC3433,

Tool/software:

DLPC3433, DLPA2005, and DLP3010

We are looking for a solution to monitor LED current for an AR eye safety application.

Was wondering if we could use RLIM resistor measurement to a Comparator to control a power switch in series with VLED? Snap shot of schematic sketch below. We are open to other ideas as well.

looking to latch VLED if LEDs hit a high current trip point, ~ 2Amps, or if other system power failures occur.

  • Hi Nathan,

This looks like a viable solution, though we have not tested this out before and we recommend verifying on your design to confirm. Our primary concern with this type of setup would be whether or not the comparator circuit skews the current sense feedback loop for the DLPC.

    Best,
