DLP4710: To extend between DMD and DLP controller

Part Number: DLP4710
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4711

Tool/software:

Hello, TI

This is a little bit ridiculous story but let me ask question.

My planning division required me to extend the length of cable between DMD and DLP controller, targeting about 1500mm.
I knew it was layout design vioration, but tried anyway.
DMD is DLP4711. DLP contoller is DLPC3440.

Eventually, I achieved to extend all signals's length to 1500mm except MS_LS_RDATA whose limit was about 800mm.
This signal stucks me as the bottle neck to achieve all signals's extention.

If possible, could you tell me why the signal length can't be extended or suggest the workaround?
Sorry for my bizarre question.

Best Regards,

  • Hello Hide,

The controller is designed to send data to the DMD with a fast but low powered protocol. There is no way to increase the drive strength for longer distances between the controller and the DMD.  For longer distances between the controller and DMD, a micro coaxial cable may be used to better match the DMD data requirements specified in the datasheets.

The controller does not have a way to compensate for the distances that you are trying to achieve. It may not be feasible to meet the signal requirements specified in the datasheets at that distance.

    John

  • Hi John,
    Sorry for my late reply.
I didn't notice your reply because I didn't think I can get the answer.

You mean there are two items we have to consider in order to increase the signal length.
One is signal integrity, another is drive strenglth.

Actually, I had already tried with a micro coaxial cable.
Even with that way, it was impossible to inclease the lenght of MS_LS_RDATA.

I'll think about whether there is any way to compensate the drive stlenght.
Thank you for your good advice.

    Best Regards,
