DLPLCR4500EVM: How to match DLP4500NIRFQE and DLPLCR4500EVM

Part Number: DLPLCR4500EVM

Tool/software:

We want to use the DLP4500NIRFQE as a DMD for an optical path, and the DLPLCR4500EVM as a driver board by removing its light engine. I directly assembled the DLP4500NIRFQE onto the board, however, the LED near the DMD remained orange and yellow. And the GUI software could not conect to the board.

Is there a problem with my assembling method, or is there a problem with this DLP4500NIRFQE?

  • Hello Jiyao,

Before you took the Optical engine off did the EVM work correctly?

Does the GUI status provide any information about why it is not connecting?

    Fizix

  • Hello Fizix,

The EVM can work normally with the optical engine. After replacing the optical engine with DLP4500NIRFQE, the GUI shows as follows:

It is the same as when the EVM is not connected to the PC.

  • Hello again Jiyao,

To make sure I understand, you separated the controller board from the light engine.  Is this correct.

I am not sure if there are things it was connected to that it is expecting to see on the LED driver system for proper initialization.  I will need to consult with the team that is familiar with it to be sure.

For test purposes are you able to connect the controller board back to the light engine to see if it will connect?  I know that you are wanting to run it independent of the optical engine, but I want to make sure that something did not get damaged in separating the controller board from the optical engine.

I think the DLP4500NIRFQE should fit into the engine, at least for test purposes.

    Fizix

  • Dear Fizix,

    Thank you for your reply!

Yes, I have separated the controller board from the light engine. And I have connected back the optical engine and checked again that the EVM can connect to my PC and output pictures correctly.

  • Jiyao,

Clearly there is some item in the light engine that the controller is expecting to see.  Let me look into this a little further to find out how to get this to work for you.  Please allow a day or two.

    Fizix

  • Hello Jiyao,

After talking to the team here there is nothing in the light engine itself that should prevent it from connecting if it connects correctly attached to the light engine.

Did you reassemble with the DLP4500NIRFQE in the EVM?  And it worked correctly?  If so then that means when out of the engine something is not making good contact.

Are both of these DMDs FQE packages or are they both FQD packages?

    Fizix

  • Hello Fizix,

    The DMDs are FQE packages.

We have resolved this problem by using the cable removed from the optical engine.

It seems that something on this cable is necessary for the DMD driving.
