DLPC7540: Quote# QFFC1BC - Several question on the DLP series...

Part Number: DLPC7540
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP5530S-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello,

can you possibly help with some customer questions regarding the following dofferences of the listed DLP series?

DLP5531
DLP 5532/55
DLP5534
DLP780
DLPC7540ZDC

Questions:

- how many degree of freedoms the mirrors have
- "1 rotation, 2 rotations, or 2 rotations + 1 vertical" ?
- can the mirror be controlled individually ?
- is it possible to control the speed of the mirrors?

Can you please advise?

Thank you very much

Best regards

Adnan

  • Hello User,

Welcome back to the E2E forums and we hope to assist you with your questions.

What is the customers application? I am transferring this question to the relevant team based on the listed DMDs.

I am not sure what you mean by degrees of freedom but the DMDs will tilt in an on state or off state.

The mirrors and speed cannot be controlled independently by a customer, it is all handled automatically through the Controller chip and the sequences ran.

    Regards,

    Alex Chan

  • Hi Adnan,

May you please help us understand what the customer wants to achieve? What application do they have in mind to use DLP products?

To start off, the DLP 553x series DMDs are controlled by the DLPC23x (DLPC230 and DLPC231) DMD controllers ICs (DMD controllers are prepended with DLPC). These belong in the TI DLP(R) Automotive portfolio, and can be used for headlight, head-up augmented reality (AR HUD), and transparent window display applications. Other applications also include digital ground projection (DGP).

The DLPC7540 is a DMD Controller for 4K UHD and 1080p display chipsets. This belongs in the TI DLP(R) Display portfolio. I will include my coworker in this thread if the customer wishes to know more; I am not an expert on this product.

The same goes for the DLP780, which is a DMD in the display portfolio that supports 4k UHD.

And just as a reminder and to reiterate what Alex has said, the mirror speed cannot be controlled by the customer. This is handled by the controller chip (DLPC23x for 0.55" DMDs, for example).

The customer may look at the datasheets of each product to see what degree the mirrors rotate, but these are bi-stable devices. When the DMD is on and unparked, it lands in one of two states: on or off. The DLP5530S-Q1 DMD, for example, lands in either +12 degrees or -12 degrees for on/off state. When the DMD is parked, it is in its "nominally flat" state.

I hope this helps. Please let us know what application the customer has in mind so we can help them decide on a TI DLP(R) product suitable for their application. Thanks!

  • Hi Adnan,

    Any update?

  • Hi ,

I will be closing this thread because there has not been an update here for nearly 2 months. I assume the customer was able to reach out to someone else within TI. If you wish to open this thread back up, simply reply within the next 2 weeks. Else, please create a new post for us, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

    Thank you,
