DLPLCRC900DEVM: Phase Light Modulation operation question (P67)

Part Number: DLPLCRC900DEVM

Tool/software:

Hello, I have a P67 0.67″ PLM model and the DLPLCRC900DEVM device that controls it.

I’m using the DLPLCRC900DEVM software to test the P67. While binary patterns work fine, anything above 2 bits doesn’t operate.

I’m adjusting the image’s bit-depth via the Depth Settings window.

I understand the P67 is a custom-made device—could this be a software limitation, or do I need to load the patterns in a different way?

Thank you for your time and assistance.

  • Hello Chanseul,

How are you building a 2-bit image?  Each bit-plane of an n-bit cgh will itself have to be a valid cgh.  When you point to a pattern and specify a bit depth of n the system will divide the pattern into n bit-planes.  Unless you specifically packed it such a way that each bitplane is a correctly packed cgh that the EVM will understand you will not get what you are expecting.

  • Thank you very much for your response.

I have generated an 8-bit CGH and uploaded the file, then used the GUI’s bit-depth setting to adjust the bits of the pattern I wish to use. Could you kindly let me know if there is a different approach I should take to generate the CGH? I would greatly appreciate your guidance.

  • Hello Chanseul,

For our understanding, when you say

anything above 2 bits doesn’t operate.

, what does this mean exactly? Are you seeing an error or is the image not being seen correctly?

    Best,

    Aaron

  • Chanseul,

I am going to send you a friend invite.  I would like to see if we can set up a meeting on this.

  • Dear Aaron Black,

First, I generated the 8-bit CGH as a BMP file and uploaded it to the software. I then selected “Pattern on the Fly” mode and, in the Pattern Mode panel’s Bit Information section, adjusted the depth. When the depth is set to 1 (binary), the desired image appears after laser incidence; however, when the depth is 2 or higher, no image is displayed. It remains the same as before activating the phase DMD—only the mirror-reflected image appears, with no pattern.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,
    Chanseul Lee

  • Hello again Chanseul,

This is not going to work the way you describe.  Grayscale subsequences are not compatible with cgh (computer generated holograms) in this way.  Please accept the friend invite so we can connect offline.

  • Dear Fizix,

Please accept my apologies for the delayed reply. I only recently discovered how to accept the friend invite, and I have now done so.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,
    Chanseul Lee

  • Hello Chansuel,

I will send you a private message later today to see what we can set up.  I would like to close this thread if possible.
