DLP2021LEQ1EVM: How to Load Custom Images into DLP Composer Project

Part Number: DLP2021LEQ1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP2021-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear [TI Support / DLP Team],

I hope this message finds you well.

I am currently working with the TI DLP platform, specifically the DLP2021-Q1 chipset, and I would like to project custom images through the system. To do this, I am attempting to use the DLP Composer software to configure a new sequence that includes a user-defined BMP or PNG image, and then build it into a flash image for deployment.

However, in the Composer environment I received, the option to create a new project appears to be unavailable, and whenever I attempt to add a custom image file, I receive an error stating that the file type is not supported.
Interestingly, default sample BMP images provided within the project do work correctly, which leads me to believe that the Composer version I have may be a restricted or preconfigured edition with limited functionality.

I would greatly appreciate your guidance on the following points:

  1. What is the proper procedure for creating a new sequence with custom image input using DLP Composer?
(e.g., new project creation, image import, sequence mapping, flash build, etc.)

  2. What are the recommended or required image specifications and format constraints (e.g., color depth, resolution, compression) for successful use in Composer?

  3. If the Composer version I’m using is limited, could you please direct me to the appropriate full-featured version (e.g., DLPC137 or similar), along with download and installation instructions?

  4. Are there any specific Composer versions that are required or recommended for compatibility with DLP2021-Q1?

Thank you in advance for your support. I look forward to your detailed guidance so I can proceed effectively with my development and testing.

  • Hi,
In addition to the video series, you can also refer the User guide here: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/dlpu113 (from page 16 , where the DLP Composer tool is explained in more detail).

Also could you please share some more details for the custom image file that you are using? (If possible, you can share the file too and I can check if the DLP Composer tool even supports it in the first place or not).

Yes the composer tool does not allow making a New Project,
For you to make a new one, you can simply import the  *.dlpxproj  again under a new  project name (which you downloaded from TI.com).
Or you can also make a copy of the existing project that you are using, and do changes in it.

If you are trying to add a custom image file, ensure that the file is also present in the Videos folder  (under the Inputs folder) of the composer project.(refer image below)

The Composer tool available on https://www.ti.com/tool/DLP2021LEQ1EVM  is indeed a full featured version(not a demo) and should suffice for building a flash image with custom video/images.

    Siddharth

  • Dear [Siddharth Choudhary],

I hope this message finds you well.

I am reaching out to report an issue encountered while working with the DLP Composer tool. After successfully adding the intended image and proceeding with the flash programming process (as shown in the attached screenshot), I noticed that the system halts at Step 1/3 – Erasing flash data, without progressing further.

The .img file (located at ...\Outputs\FlashImage.img) appears to be recognized correctly, and the project build completes without error. However, the flash operation does not proceed beyond the erase stage, and the "Program and Verify" button remains disabled.

I would appreciate your guidance on the possible causes of this issue, and any recommended steps for resolution. Please let me know if additional logs or project files would be helpful for troubleshooting.

Thank you in advance for your support.

    Best regards,

  • Dear [MYEONGJAE NOH],
Could you please share me Error logs if any to help me narrow down the issue.

Additionally could you please go to the connections page and share me the Screen capture of it.

I suspect there could be problem with the Connections / some configuration on the connections page itself.

Also have you tried the following workarounds:
    1) Restarting the Composer tool and trying again.
    2) Restarting the Hardware and trying again.

Do let me know if this help you out.

    Regards,
    Siddharth
