DLP3010EVM-LC: Frame Rate

Part Number: DLP3010EVM-LC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP3010LC, , DLPC3478

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am seeking a suitable DMD eval module I need to be able to display and image for some specified number of milliseconds, and then swap to the next image in a sequence and repeat. I see that the DMD DLP3010LC supports: Pattern rate, binary (max) (Hz) 2487 - though I cannot find this in its corresponding datasheet. Further, the controller also supports:  Pattern rate, binary (max) (Hz) 2487, but lists the maximum: Input Frame Rates up to 120 Hz. I am having a hard time understanding the difference between these specifications.

Simply put, does the evaluation module DLP3010EVM-LC support displaying binary images on the DMD at a rate of 1kHz using the provided firmware and software? Is there a minimum display/dark time for the evaluation module? I am only concerned with the DMD display, not any of the LED illumination aspects.

Thanks,

-Nathan

  • Nathan,

It is listed in the controller data sheet (DLPC3478) as 2500 binary patterns per second (rounded up slightly from 2487)

Here is how it works 120 Hz is the 24-bit RGB frame rate which can be used to generate 3 grayscale frames (hence the data sheet shows 360 Hz 8-bit patterns and 2500 Hz-1-bit.  There is some overhead so it doesn't quite reach 2880Hz binary patterns.

What it is doing is re-interpreting the 24 bits of RGB as single binary patterns.  See section 7.3.1.3 Parallel Interface on page 28 of the controller data sheet.

You should be able to reach something around 1Khz binary.
