DLP5500: What kind of DLP used for this research?

Part Number: DLP5500
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP6500FLQ, DLPC900

Dear Ti Team,

I'd like to purchase the DLP set you offer to stimulate a mouse's retina with a pattern.

I currently have a 532nm laser (fiber type) and would like to use additional optics to project the expanded laser onto the DLP (DMD) to stimulate the mouse's retina with the desired pattern.

If I purchase a DLP6500FLQ or DLP5500, can I create the pattern using the free software or SDK provided by TI without any additional equipment?

I'm wondering if the above-mentioned products are a single set. (I only need one DLP system.)

A brief schematic is shown below.
My biggest question is whether I can control the system by purchasing just one of the two products mentioned above.
(The product lines I've previously reviewed had separate controllers for the DMD and DLP, which was confusing.)
I need a complete set that includes a DLP system (with a DMD chipset) and a controller, without the need for a light source.

Best Regards,

  • Hello Osung,

Thank you for reaching out to us through E2E!

A chipset is the grouping of controller, DMD and Power Management IC (PMIC). The controller (DLPC900) supports both of the DMDs you have mentioned. We offer Evaluation Modules (EVMs) that will provide electronics only solutions (no optics or light engines) but will demonstrate and utilize most all functionality for the DLPC900 and supported DMDs. You will need to purchase a single ASIC EVM - DLPLCRC900EVM - separate from either of the DMD EVMs you want to work with - DLPLCR65EVM or DLPLCR55EVM. The PMIC is provided on the DMD EVM.

You can install the initial firmware to work with the boards using the latest DLPC900 software development PROM and REF-SW under the DLPC900 product page.

I hope this clears up any questions! Please advise if you have further questions!

    Best,

    Aaron
