DLP3010EVM-LC: Issue while projecting uniform patterns in DLP 3010

Part Number: DLP3010EVM-LC

I am trying to project multiple patterns of uniform intensity through the internal pattern streaming mode of DLP 3010 projector.

These are the patterns I am trying to project : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1H3ScqGRlquR-578ODV7oNzdpBfIZYi-2?usp=sharing

These are how i load the patterns in the DLP3010-EVM GUI : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qH5JDQPiri4lJmg_CR1yAfxVaLd4doux/view?usp=sharing

This is the issue that happens while projecting : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cQ9zADDuF-fey5lW8a_CFB2tSyp2ZHah/view?usp=sharing

As you can see, instead of projecting uniformly increasing low intensity patterns, the projector projects high intensity light. The video shows projection happening in the green channel, but even with red and blue channels the issue persists.

  • Hello Dev H,

Thank you for reaching out and using the E2E forums! An expert from our team will review the thread and get back to you shortly.

    Regards,

    Tristan Bottone

  • Also, I tried to project a single sinusoidally varying pattern which was also not projected correctly. The projection was done in internal pattern streaming mode.

    The pattern i uploaded to DLP3010EVM : drive.google.com/.../view

This is pattern actually projected : drive.google.com/.../view

  • Hello Dev H,

I apologize, we do not utilize Google Drive documents - if you would like to include images or files, please attach them to the thread directly on E2E

I look forward to seeing the images you are seeing, I apologize for not being able to respond to what you are seeing, but it seems like you are trying to change the intensity of the LED, is this the case?

    Best,

    Aaron

  • Hello Aaron,

I will attach the files t this thread directly.
I am using the DLP 3010 to project these patterns in internal pattern streaming mode.

This is how i load these patterns in the DLP EVM GUI

This is how the projector actually projects these patterns

As you can see, the patterns are not projected in a manner of increasing uniform intensity. High intensity light is projected at places where I uploaded low intensity patterns.

Also, I tried to project a pattern of sinusoidally varying intensity.

This is how it was actually projected

This is the timing diagram for this projection

Kindly let me know if you have trouble accessing any of the attachments.

    Dev

  • Hello Aaron,

    Any updates?

  • Hello Dev,

I have tested these out for myself - I didn't know what exposure timing you utilized for the first 9-pattern sequence, so I utilized the same 704 (Pre-), 60000us (Exposure) and 125 (Post-).

I apologize, the video does not work as the video rate influences what is seen - your eyes are seeing something drastically different here.

When you utilize pattern modes, the exposure time you select is how long the exposure will be for (60000us) and the bitplanes will need to be broken up (bitplane #1, #2, #3, etc) to fill for that time.

You are seeing artifacts due to how the 8-bitplanes are splitting that time and your eyes are integrating them - not at the same time. A camera can be set to an exposure time of 60000us and will integrate the planes across that time, but we cannot do that.

I hope that clears some confusion here, but this is operating as intended!

    Best,

    Aaron
