Lightcrafter video input problems

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC300

Hello,

I have 2 lightcrafter kits and they both behave the same.  I've been try to drive video through them via the mini-hdmi port from my computer (nvidia quadro 2000 card) with no luck.   I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit.  The nvidia control panel recognizes the lightcrafter device and can read the EDID from the lightcrafter units.  The nvidia card seems to be applying a native resolution of 608x684.  I can control the devices via the DLPlighcrafterGUI program, and can telnet into them also.

However, when I try to enable HDMI video display mode, I typically get the same screen as what was displayed previously, or a red-only version of whatever static image was showing before.   Sometimes after a few seconds the video blanks to full black.  I've tried this with the native resolution, 640x480 (setting in both nvidia control panel & in the DLPlightcrafter) and others, to no avail.

Are there any suggestions on using the HDMI video option?

    Thank you

     C

  • Chris,

I have seen this behavior when the graphics card cannot handle the 608x684 resolution that LightCrafter's EDID is reporting. Basically, there is no sync signal, so LightCrafter is displaying the last image on its video buffer with the first LED of the sequence. Since no sync signals are generated from the HDMI port, then LightCrafter turns off the LED after 2.5 sec.

Setting a different resolution on the LightCrafter GUI will change how DLPC300 interprets the information, but does not change the EDID that is reported back to the video card. Thus, the video card sees the resolution of 608x684, but it does not seem to be able to generate the correct sync and frame rates.

I am able to use the HDMI input with several computers: PCs (Windows XP and 7) and Macs (Snow Leopard and Lion). However, not been able to get PCs that are over 5 years old to generate the correct sync signals.

  • Pedro,

My Pc is only a month old, so this isn't just an issue with older PCs.   I can override the EDID with my video card, do you have a EDID file for 854x480 that I could try out?

        Thank you,

        Chris

  • Chris,

I am attaching an EDID file with 864x480 resolution. When LightCrafter boots, the DM365 sets the video resolution at 608x684 and bypasses the internal processing that scales the higher resolution to the DMD array. After powering up, set the the video mode to HDMI. On the HDMI tab:

    • set the video resolution to 864x480
    • Active Pix Start=0 and Width=864
    • Active Lin Start=0 and Height=480 and click set.
    • Make sure the Video mode setting is set to 8-bit depth, 60Hz frame Rate and RGB.

If you want this to be set on power-up. Click on Solution/Upgrade tab, input a name, and save it. Then click default.  This will execute these settings after power up.

  • The forum cutoff my last sentence:

Attached is the 864x480 EDID. To download it, select SOlution/Upgrade tab. Under SW PAckage select EDID, browse for the uncompressed version of this file and click install. You can switch to the factory EDID by downloading it from the LightCrafter page under DLP3000-C300REFEDID.
