Differential pair maximum trace length between the DLPC200 and DLP5500

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP5500, DLPC200

Hello,

In the document dlpz004b.pdf has following descriptions at the page53.

"Differential pair maximum trace length should not exceed 6 inches (15.2 cm) (total etch length between the DLPC200 and DLP5500)."

1) We would like to ask the reason of the this maximum length value? Because our design likely exceeded the 15.2cm and it might be the 20cm.

2) Does this value(15.2cm) include the internal trace length of the both chips?

Would you please answer above questions?

Thank you and best regards,

Rossinag

  • Hi Rossinag,

    1) We would like to ask the reason of the this maximum length value? Because our design likely exceeded the 15.2cm and it might be the 20cm.

[Sanjeev] This for the 'signal integrity' between DLPC200 and DLP5500.

    2) Does this value(15.2cm) include the internal trace length of the both chips?

[Sanjeev] This is excluding internal trace length.

FYI, we have experimented the system by connecting a 12" inch flex cable between DLP Controller board and DMD board. There is appnote pulbished on the web http://www.ti.com/lit/an/dlpa028/dlpa028.pdf . This information may help you for your further consideration and experiment.

  • Hello Sanjeev,

Thank you very much for your reply. Please let me confirm my understanding.

The value of the 15.2 cm,in the data sheet, is nothing more than a guide line. So ,depending on the adopting robust signal lines , user can exceed the trace length from the 15.2cm. Is my understanding correct?

    Thank you and best regards,

    Rossinag

  • Hi Rossinag,

    Yes.

You may also note that as explained in http://www.ti.com/lit/an/dlpa028/dlpa028.pdf there is going to be additional hardware BOM for extending the length. We also suggest customers to verify design by experiment before finalizing.

    Regards,

    Sanjeev
