We are a post-production facilities in Brussels-Belgium-Europe using Barco DP2K-12C projector.
We noticed a strange horizontal centering issue with Cine-canvas subtitles generated by our DP2K-12C :
More a line contains letters, the more it shifts to the left relative to the absolute center of the image.
For example, if a line contains only the letter "O", it will be centered.
But if a line contains many letters/words, the more it contains letters, the more it shifts to the left, relative to the absolute center of the image.
For example, the shift is 5 cm for a 80 cm subtitle’s line on a 3M base screen.
To be 100% sure it’s a projector’s side issue and not a DCP problem, I enabled the generation of subtitles on our Doremi Server (same time as the projector) with the same DCP, and centering of subtitles from Doremi is good, while those generated by the Barco projector (and superimposed on top of Doremi’s) are clearly left shifted for long lines.
Any feedback/solution about this important issue?
Second problem regarding Cine-canvas subtitles:
Sometimes translators need to create a “partial italic subtitle”.
Example: “This is a partial italic subtitle line.”
It works, but we get some anti-aliasing issues.
If you look carefully on the projected subtitles, you will notice that the italic part is anti-aliased, as usually, full italics lines generated by the projector are not anti-aliased and looks sharper. This gives a strange impression on the italicized words that also appears darker.
Second issue: the non-italicized word following a “partial italic” will also suffer from anti-aliasing, while he certainly should not.
