Could some pixels of DLP3000 chip be always on in the DLP LightCrafter?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC300

Dear Sir or Madam,

Some mirrors of DLP3000 chip, for example, mirrors located from Row100Col600 to Row115Col585, should be set always on.  Can DLP LightCrafter realize it?  If it can, how to realize it?  Thanks a lot.

Sincerely yours

Thomas

  • Hi Thomas,

Unfortunately, the DLP3000 DMD cannot be controlled row/column wise using the DLPC300 (controller). The bottle neck  is the way patterns/ bit planes are loaded into the DMD.  There are two video modes that DLPC300 supports: 1)streaming data through the 24-bit RGB parallel bus or 2)displaying pre-loaded images from the DLPC300's mDDR Display Buffer.

    1) In  video mode with external input from 24-bit RGB Parallel Port, data is streamed through the 24-bit RGB parallel bus in mDDR. The mDDR consists of 4 frame buffers. For a 24-bit RGB frame image inputted to the DLPC300, the DLPC300 creates twenty-four bit planes, stores them on the mDDR, and sends them to the DLP3000 DMD on the next frame, one bit-plane at a time.

    2) In Internal Video from pre-loaded patterns with Optional FPGA, DLP3000 displays previously loaded images from the DLPC300's mDDR Display Buffer. The 96 bit-plane Display Buffer is arranged in a circular buffer style, meaning that the last bit-plane addition to the buffer replaces the oldest stored bit-plane. While the DLPC300 fills one buffer, the DLPC300 can read a previously filled buffer and load it into the DLP3000 DMD array as shown below.

If you could share some details about your application, I might be able to help you further.

  • Hi I am in need of one of these DMD chips (DLP3000) I only need one, where can I buy just one. thanks!

  • Hello Divya,

Thanks for your feedback.  These DMD mirrors are used to measure the diffraction efficiency when the optical signal is input with the different beam sizes at the different positions.  So I want to know each mirror’s ON/OFF position and hope to control it independently.  The results are used as the guideline to our final optical module design used in the optical communication system.

Does Bit-Plane image have 1 to 1 relationship with DMD mirror’s statue? If it is, could I change mirror's position by using different Bit-Plane imange and keep the mirror’s positions by using the same Bit-Plane image for all 24-bit RBG frame image?  If it works, could you help tell me how to create this kind image?

Another thing is that the RBG sources will be removed and replaced by 1.53um to 1.56um wavelength sources.  Does it affect the DMD controller of LightCrafter?  Thanks a lot.

    Sincerely yours

    Thomas

  • Hi Ameer,

You can order the DLP3000 DMDs from the DLP3000 product folder page. Typical pack quantities for this device are 10 units. Often, for lower quantities customers prefer to obtain the development module as a starting point.

    Best Regards,
