Problem in using LightCommander

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC200, DLP5500

Hi

i have a Light Commander Kit and i got some problems when using it .

sometimes when i launch the controling software  , it shows this

sometimes it works well after i unplug&plug the usb wire several times , or renew the DLPC200 usb driver ,or just left it there  for one day  :)

sometimes it still dosen't work .

AND

i also have a self-designed board using DLPC200

this kind of problem occurs again , and doesn't work till now .

PS. run log says :  API function "GetDMDparkStats" didn't return OK. usb communication time out .

thank you ~~~

  • Hello Xiaochun,

This appears that the USB connection is poor.  Have you tried a different USB cable?  They can become bad.

Also inspect the USB connector for damage, both the pins that connect to the cable and where it connect to the board.  Also try a different USB connector on your computer.

Regarding the self-designed board, how did you program the prom that loads the DLPC200?  Did you have a preprogrammed prom that you mounted?

  • Hello Fizix

    About my  self-designed board,

    i have a preprogrammed prom file called DLPC200 firmware ,   " DLPC200_HW1 . BIN "

but i can't download it into my board ,

i tried to download  it by using controlling software  "Update Master Controller Program Memory"

it stops at the begining of the downloading .... :(

    thank you ~~

  • Hi Xiaochun,

You cannot use DLPC200 firmware to directly program an empty prom. As you know till know most of the users are/were experimenting with DLP LightCommander(TM) Kit to evaluate DLP5500 chipset capabilities. So from TI side we have put the firmware that can be programmed easily on the DLP LightCommander(TM) Kits.

For custom boards we are in a process to release the .hex file that can be used to program an empty or corrupt flash. Once the prom is programmed DLPC200 controller chip itself will enable updating firmware (this is currently put on the web).

  • Hello Sanjeev

you gave me a very important advice , thank you !

my  colleagues have got a file , named  "DLPC200_HW1_0_363_MCU2_1_5.hexout"

do you mean this file ?

if not , where can i get it ?

    And

How can i program an empty prom ?

my prom , "M25P64" , has already soldered on the board .

    thank you ~

    Waiting for your reply ~

  • Hi Xiaochun,

You can wireout out SPI interface from the board and you can use any standard prom programmers to flash the device. The name looks like it is. Can you tell me from where you got this file?

    Regards,

    Sanjeev

  • Hi Sanjeev

i asked the company where i bought LightCommander Kit

the engineer of the company send you an e-mail , and get this file .

    he is Kane ,  xingh@dspchina.com

By the way , what is the different between .hex file and .hexout file ?

    thank you ~~

  • Hi Xiaochun,

Try to look for utilities to convert hexout to binary files then you can program using standard prom programmers.

I am working on creating an appnote. Our aim is provide a binary file that you can directly burn it on flash device. This will be especially useful if the flash gets corrupt or if it is new empty device.

    Regards,

    Sanjeev

  • HI Sanjeev

thank you for the advice ~~
