Hello Zhang,
Welcome to the DLP section of the TI-E2E Community. I am glad you found our forums.
The Discovery 4100 Evaluation kit comes with a controller board that has a USB chip that communicates with a user programmable APPS-FPGA (Xilinx Virtex 5 - LX50). Th contoller board also has the DDC4100 controller (Xilinx Virtex 5 - LX30) that is configured by a pre-programmed prom that ensures proper data loading and DMD reset operations.
The kit also comes with a flex cable for the XGA or two flex cables for the 1080p, a DMD and a DMD board with the DMD mounted. It also comes with GUI software to allow patterns to be loaded through USB to the DMD.
You can get further information on the kit and other documentation from one of our distributors / design houses. Please refer to the following page for links to our distributors / design houses: http://www.ti.com/analog/docs/memsdlpdsgn.tsp?sectionId=622&tabId=2448

Hello Fizix, Thanks for your reply. Actually i have contacted those distributors. This is an education project for high school students, would TI sell the package directly? or any demonstration document/videos available? i have found some online, but would like to have more.
Hello Zhang,
At this point in time the Discovery 4100 kit and chipset are only sold through our distributors. The D4100 kit has the most flexibility and customizability of our product offerings, but does require more programming work.
Have you considered the LightCommander (XGA resolution) or the LightCrafter evaluation module (WVGA resolution). These are lower cost, are not as customizable, but already have optics, video input, pattern programming and require less programming work. These are both available through our distribution channels. The LightCrafter is available directly from the TI eStore --> https://estore.ti.com/DLP-MEMS-C165.aspx

Hello Fizix, Yes, i am thinking about lightcrafter. i guess i can program some simple pattern, like dot matrix, circle, right? Only difficult part is to replace the light source with laser. Is it easier to change light source for LightCommander? any suggestions? Thanks.
Hello Zhang,
Please refer to the following thread regarding removing the light engine from a LightCrafter:
Doing so will likely void any warranty the development kit may have. There is a similar thread you may wish to look at:

If you do remove the optical module, then you will need to design your own optics to get the laser illumination to the DMD. You will likely need a beam expander and shaper or aperture to shape the illumination at the DMD.
