control of multiple Discovery 4100 DMDs from one computer

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ALP

Hello,

We have been using several Discovery 4100 starter kits as beam profilers and spatial light modulators in our lab, but for the first time we have a need to control two DMDs with one computer, preferably through labview.  Neither the D4100 explorer software nor the labview VI seems capable of distinguishing between multiple DMDs.  Is there a sub-VI available that would allow us to identify and select separate DMDs?  Thank you,

Ben

  • Hi Ben,

Thank you for your participation in the E2E Community.  In regards to your question about contolling multiple DMDs with one computer, Yes, this is possible.

In order to do this, you need the ALP API Software Suite from ViALUX.  There are two version, the Basic and High-Speed. I know the High -Speed does it because it is a feature in the software.  I am checking to see if the Basic does as well.  In the meantime, below is a link to ViALUX's website so you can learn more about the ALP and Basic vs High Speed.

  • Hi Ben,

I wanted to follow up in regards to your post and the ability to run multiple DMDs with one computer.  As I mentioned, this is possible with the ALP-4.1 High Speed API / GUI. I just got word that the ALP Basic version has this feature as well.

You can directly refer to the serial number to address the respective board. The serial number is part of the USB VID.In case of ALP-4.1 high-speed, they need the D4100 here at ViALUX and they will set the serial number.  If ALP-4.1 basic is sufficient, you can do it easily using the SetUsbId program which is included in the ALP package.

Let me know if you have any other questions.  I hope this helps.
