LightCrafter pattern change rate

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC300

We are planning to purchase a DLP system for optical microscopy application and were wondering what is LightCrafter pattern change rate for binary and grayscale images. Does it work only with predetermined images or you can generate images on the fly? And finally, does it have a driver for LabVIEW?

Thanks

  • Tatyana,

Welcome to the DLP & MEMS E2E forum.

Thank you for your interest in our DLP LightCrafter development module. Please see http://www.ti.com/tool/dlplightcrafter for answers to these questions and more.

The binary frame rate is max 4000 fps. The 8-bit grayscale frame rate is max 120 fps.

The LightCrafter is supported by a control GUI which allows you to query and control the features of the LightCrafter. It has the ability to accept and store user defined patterns. The LightCrafter also allows the display of HDMI video, if on-the-fly images are desired. The user will have to generate the patterns and stream them over the HDMI as 60 fps video.

There are no LabView drivers, at this time, but I believe that others on this forum may have done something with LabView and LightCrafter.

The documentation referenced above will give you more information on the features and capabilities of the DLP LightCrafter.

  • colp222,

I am not sure what you are stating, or asking. Could you clarify?

  • Pascal,

Thanks a lot for your answer!

I have a couple of questions regarding working with predefined patterns. Light Crafter has a flash memory of 128 Mb, but it can be expanded as DMD controller supports external memory. Is that right? Next, if I load a sequence of patterns on the DMD controller, can I define in real time, in what order they are displayed?

  • Tatyana,

The flash memory is not what determines or limits the number of patterns which the DLPC300 DMD controller can handle. This is determined by the DLPC300 itself. So, the number of patterns can not be expanded by the user.

If you are asking whether the pattern sequence can be changed in real time (on-the-fly), this is not possible with the DLPC300 (DLP LightCrafter). The order of the patterns is the order in which they are uploaded to the controller - for example, using the LightCrafter control GUI.

  • Thank you.

A follow-up questions. What memory DLPC300 has then? How many patterns can I upload?

Is real time control of pattern sequence possible with any other existing DLP kit?
