Can I get light craft without the light engine?

We are in the machine vision industrial.

We want to use the DLP electronics and design our own optics engine.

How can I get in contact with a TI DLP application engineer.

All I really need is the DLP electronics without the lens as we need to use telecentric lens on it.

  • Jerry,

Welcome to the DLP & MEMS E2E forum.

The DLP LightCrafter is a development kit for the DLP3000 chipset. See http://ti.com/mems to view the DLP chipset which are available. The DLP LightCrafter is not available without the light engine and optics, but the light engine is easily removable from the LightCrafter if you want to substitute your own optics and illumination.

There are messages on this forum which discuss the removal of the light engine from the LightCrafter.

  • Hi Pascal

    Thanks for the info.

We are OEM manufacturer.  For R&D purpose, I can just buy the development kit and remove the light engine.

I am wondering in production phase do I still have to do that.  Our quantity is not huge, about couple hundred a year.

So I don't want to bother to design our own electronics around the DLP along with the software. That said I do want to use the electronics on the development board.

However we do need special optics.  It is going to be wired that I have to take off the light engine in a assembly procedure.

Another problem is in our industrial although the quantity is not huge per year. The life cycle of the product is long like 10 years.

I would like to be able to buy the same thing for a while.

Is there any quantity discount for the light craft?  Who can I bought from?

The 5124341560 number on TI website dont answer DLP question.  They refered me to TI field office in Roseville California.

However I have called them couple times from yesterday,  they never pick up the phone and never returned my message.

    Best Regards,

    Jerry

  • Jerry,

Sorry to hear about the difficulty getting in touch with TI support. These forums are always the best way to get and answer.

The DLP LightCrafter development kit is manufactured by a 3rd party to TI specifications, and sold through distributors. It is also available on the TI eStore.

The DLP LightCrafter is a published reference design. The circuit schematics, board layouts, and BOM, as well as FW and software, are available online.

    See http://www.ti.com/tool/dlp3000-c300ref

Anyone is welcome to build their own systems using this information. The DLP3000 chipset is a TI product which will have long term availability.

  • There's a nice clear post on how to remove the optics engine called "changing optics on DLP LightCrafter", posted Jan 23 2012 --search the forum.

There is no FTIR prism in front of the DMD,the turning mirror on the illumination path is right next to the projection lens which is somewhat off-axis,so it appears that you are correct in viewing the projection optics as nontelecentric.

Given the nature of this product it's only offered in one version, and it seems to me to be a bargain, even if I discard the optics.
