Safe to mount DMD sideways?

I have a .55" XGA Type X mirror.  Because of the default row loading order, it will be simpler to use one of the sides of the DMD as the top of my image.  Is it safe to mount the DMD so the screen is in the "portrait" position instead of the normal "landscape" position?  Will this affect the mirror tilt angles or provide more strain on the mirrors or other DMD parts?

  • Anna,

Welcome to the DLP & MEMS E2E forum.

If I understand your question correctly, you are asking if there should be any concern about the mounting orientation of the DMD due to gravitational effects. Not at all. The DMD can be mounted in any orientation with respect to gravity, with no effect at all on the mirror array, or its proper operation.

Of course, the illumination optics will also be oriented differently. Other considerations - airflow, etc. should be accommodated. But, there is no issue at all with the DMD mirrors due to gravity.
