Common HDMI devices

Hello,

If I am not mistaken, the Lightcrafter supports up to 8-bit HDMI. Unfortunately, I can't find any HDMI devices that I know are outputing using an 8-bit signal. My computer's graphics card (GTX 460) seems to only output 32 bits through DVI. What are some common HDMI devices that have been used and tested with the Lightcrafter?

  • Nikita,

Actually, the LightCrafter supports standard HDMI video input - of subset of resolutions. This video is assumed to be RGB888, or 24-bit RGB, with 8 bits per color. In the pattern modes, the 24-bits are just treated differently, as far as assigning them to subframes.

We have used the LightCrafter with DVD players, video generators, and computers - laptop and desktop - both PC and Mac. It is important to match up the output resolution with the expected input resolution of the LightCrafter (set from the GUI). Any resolution besides 608x684 (native for the DLP3000) requires that you first install the 864x480 EDID firmware (supplied with the LCr software package).

  • Hello,

I met the same problem. Now I connect lightcrafter miniHDMI with my laptop with Win7 system. And I  have installed the 864x480 EDID firmware.

and do as the following steps:

    1. ConnectanactiveHDMIsourceto the miniHDMIconnectorshowingin Figure1-5.

    2. SetDisplayModeonupperleft portionofthe windowto “HDMIVideo.”

    3. Clickon“Set.”

    I have two questions:

    1) I want to use lightcrafter to expand or copy my desktop. My PC can detect lightcrafter because two monitors are listed and one is "IND PICO DVI".

However, the minimum resolution is 800*600, and I have tried all the resolution from 800*600 to 1366*768. However, my PC remind that these settings

can't be saved!  How can I solve this problem.

    2) Can I display any video on my PC with lightcrafter? for example, a movie?

  • Zhong,

We have connected various LightCrafters to many PCs and displayed the PC's screen on the LightCrafter. The maximum resolution supported by the LightCrafter is 864 x 480. The latest software package includes an EDID that supports 640 x 480, 608 x 684, and 864 x 480. This EDID identifies to the PC as a monitor named "LightCrafter." You can find the latest software package here under "DLP LightCrafter Firmware and Software Bundle - Windows."

If you do not see an image projected by the LightCrafter.  Connect the LightCrafter to the PC through USB, run the GUI and make sure the LightCrafter Display Mode is set to HDMI video. The video resolution settings must match the resolution used by the PC. By default, the video resolution is set to 608 x 684. If the video resolution used by the PC is 864 x 480, then on the HDMI Video tab set Resolution to 864 x 480 and Acitve Pixel to Start = 0 Width 864 and Active Line Start = 0 Height = 480.

    Best regards,
