DLP Light Commander does not project test image

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC200

Ordered a DLP Light Commander a while back but took it out of the box for the first time yesterday.  I set it up according to the quick start guide, but when I turn it on I do not get the test pattern.  I've looked through the forums to find assistance, but none of the other cases seem to match my case.  To address commonly asked questions in prior posts:

1) If I remove the lens and toggle the on-off switch I do see a quick flash of light from the unit, but no test pattern loads.

2) When I connect the USB, the software does not recognize the DLP and returns the red error indicating Not Connected

3) Furthermore, I cannot find the DLP anywhere in my Windows device manager, not even as an unrecognized device.

4) The power on LED is on, but the software reset completed LED is not.  Pushing the hardware reset and/or software reset buttons doesn't seem to accomplish anything.

Any ideas on what is wrong, or more importantly how to remedy this? Thanks!

  • Hello Matthew,

There seems to be something seriously wrong with the system. The device manager not showing the device can be due to any of the issues related to a) The Cypress USB part not  booting correctly b) DLPC200 it self not booting.

Since you have already tried opening the lens and optics assembly, can you see anything displayed on the DMD after power ON? You can put any light and look into DMD to see if it showing any pattern.

    Regards,

    Sanjeev

  • Sanjeev,

Thansk for the quick response.  I removed the lens again and booted up, but I can not see anything displayed on the DMD (just looks like a shiny mirror).  Is there any quick fix here?  Any connections to check or something simple to further look at?

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Matt,

Unfortunately there aren't any simple checks to ascertain what is wrong.

Just take out the main board, remove all connection except the power to the board. Power ON the board, are you able to talk to the board via USB? Make sure on the PC you have installed DLP LightCommander controller software and driver, it should at least detected as unknown USB device. If it doesn't then try with another USB cable and another PC. If the above thing is not working, then I am afraid we can't anything. Sorry.

    Regards,

    Sanjeev

  • Sanjeev,

Looks like I've got a $3000 lemon on my hands.  Never had a problem with TI development kits before, but this might be the last one I buy.  I wouldn't be so upset if it was like any other $50-$100 development, but this one hurts bad.

  • Hi Matt,

I can see how you would be upset.  Sanjeev and I want to help you and find it difficult to believe you received a defective unit.  Please let us know your contact information.  You can send me a private message if you do not wish to post your contact information publicly.
