problem Triggering a camera from The Imaging Source

Hi,

    A problem comes up when I use the LCr to trigger a Imaging source camera 31Bu03. The triggering can fail occasionally.

  Settings:

    exposure time:                    16667us for both the camera and Lcr

    output trigger pulse width:    100us

     the system board change has been made according to the guide, but the voltage between pin1 and pin3 of J7 is measured at 3.18V instead of 3.3V. The  process     ( Lcr projects--trigger--camera snaps)      runs smoothly most of the time, but  sometime it gets stucked.  Howerver, if I break one of the cable (e.g. the one connecting the Pin1 of J7 and the center conductor of the BNC jack ) and connect it again, it runs correctly again. It seems that the camera hasn't been triggered properly becasue there's no trigger signal, but  i have no device to detect the LightCrafter's output trigger.

   I'm sure the cable connection is ok. So what causes this?  Is it guaranteed that if the command successes, the LCr will give a trigger singal? Or it's just because the voltage isn't enough? if so , why it works most of the times as well as manually cause a  signal(mentioned above)? Someone gives me some help please. Thanks

  • Hi Will,

    Welcome to DLP & MEMS section of TI E2E Community!

    Can you answer following questions,

    What is the voltage between Pin3 and Pin4 on J7?

    What are the version numbers of DM365 and FPGA on the LightCrafter?

    The "Command Success" message is for pattern upload and Pattern sequence settings. If you click on "GET" on the Output Trigger settings and if you still see the trigger Enabled, then LightCrafter should provide the external trigger.

    Regards,

    Divya

  • Hi Divya,

    Thanks for you reply.

    The voltage between Pin3 and Pin4 on J7 is 0.1v;

    The version number of the DM365: 4.0 , of the FPGA  2.6.43;

    The output trigger is enabled, as I can see after I clicked "Get", the pulse width is 100.

    I tested another two camera from the Imaging source, a GIGE camera DMK 23G618, which is smaller (resolution is 640x480) and a USB camera DMK41BU02, resolution 1280x960, result in this:

    1) the GIGE camera DMK 23G618 works continuously for 4 hours without any problem;

    2) the USB camera DMK41BU02 works the same as DMK31BU03, failed to be triggered some times, and a manul trigger(mentioned in the first post) could make it work again.

    I wonder if the USB cameras I use need a higher voltage than the GIGE camera, but according to the Imaging Source document, they are the same(3.3 ~ 12V). So I want to make sure that the LCr is OK.

    Another issue: the exposure time may change a litte between the "Set" and "Get" value. Hope ii's helpful mple:

    the value "Set"            the value form "Get"

    8333                                8333

    8444                                 9000

    9000                                   9000

    16667                                17000

    Regards,

    Will
