USB connection issues

Hi dip lc experts, A kcloud virus is found in your LightCrafterGUI.exe file. I had USB connection issues on both win7 and xp. Dm365 was updated, hardware has a 2.0 sticker. The led next to dm365 keeps weak red when the switch is off. Pls let me know if my dlp3000 is damaged. Thx, Min
  • Min Zhou1,

Which LightCrafter GUI are you seeing the virus in? That is, which version of the bundle? The latest is v2.0.1  6/14/2013. Our scans do not show a virus in any of the files in that bundle, including the LightCrafterGUI.exe.

Your PC may be infected with a virus elsewhere, and this leads to a spurious identification on this file.

Also, can you be clearer about the LED next to the DM365 - which switch? The one which selects between booting from SD card or FLASH?

Have you been able to connect to the LightCrafter via USB? What are the connection issues that you are seeing?

    1. Virus in LightCrafterGUI.exe of DLP3000 for Windows Bundle

I downloaded DLP LR 3000 Bundle DLPLCr_FW_SW_v2.0.1_WIN_06_14_2013for Windows from your website. No Virus was detected at the time.

Then I installed it on my computer and start to launch LightCrafterGUI.exe

A KCloud virus  (a kind of Trojan house virus) was detected.

The following is a screen shot of the KCloud virus information in Chinese.

    2. USB connection issue – no connection

A Lab power supply provide 5V  to DLC LCR3000 via Power Socket  (6).

I updated firmware DM365 successfully with file in C300REFDM365-v4.0 \\dm3xx_nand.dat. I may not have to do this step because I got a 2.0 sticker on the DLP3000 device.

When I turned on DLP3000 booting from Flash, a splash screen and three color bars were shown correctly.

I then turned off the DLP3000 by pushing  the ON/Off Button (10) on Driver Board (bottom layer). A red LED (D1) on system board (top layer) next to DM365 is on, and its intensity is pretty weak.

Then I turn one the DLP3000, and tried to connect  the device o my computer  with Window 7 Home Premium Service Pak 1 via USB,

Using LightCrafterGUI.exe. I clicked on the Connection button. It is stuck there forever.

When I clicked on Button “get Version” It popped up a message “No Connect” and firmware not match information. I have update DM365 firmware to the latest version 4.0. I could not do any other firmware update if there is no USB connection.

I followed  instruction in EVM user guide to update RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget driver. I also tried on XP.  I got a connection error = 5.

Please let me know if the DLP LCR3000 is damaged.  If so, I will return it.

  • The virus name is Win32.HeurC.KVM099.a.  please see the following screen shot for  virus information

  • I do not see the screenshot. However, we have checked the v2.0.1 package, and the LightCrafterGUI.exe, and we do not detect a virus.

I can't say why you are detecting the virus. Did you use software to remove or isolate the virus? Did you remove the detected virus, then remove the LightCrafter software? Scan your computer to see if you find the virus. If not, then try reinstalling the LightCrafter v2.0.1 package, and the GUI. Do you see the virus again?

  • Min,

It is possible that the lightly glowing LED is due to the USB cable being attached when you have turned off the LightCrafter by pressing the side switch.

It sounds like you were never successful in connecting to the LightCrafter via USB in order to update any of the software or FW. Did you actually update any of the FW/SW on the LightCrafter?

What I understand you to say is that you powered up the LightCrafter once, and it booted all the way to the color bars screen. Then you pressed the button on the side, and it turned off - but power was still connected. Then, did you press the button again? Or did you remove and then restore power to the EVM?

If it first booted to the color bar screen, but after turning off has not done so again, did you do anything else to the EVM between? Have you tried another power supply? It is possible that your power supply is marginal.

At this point, I can't say if your LightCrafter EVM is damaged, or it is not.

  • Min,

I now understand the you updated the DM365 sofware, which you do by SD card. I assume that you changed the switch (next to the SD socket) by pushing it toward the SD card socket. Did you move the switch back away from the SD card socket, towards the DM365) to reboot?

  • Pascal,

    1. Virus

I scanned everything on my computer, no virus was detected except the one in LightCrafterGUI.exe file.

I uninstalled your windows bundle and installed it many times. the same virus was detected. I isolated the LightCrafterGuI.exe, My virus protection software simple removed it from GUI folder. Although the virus was detected in the GUI application, I still launched it,  but I didn't have any luck to get USB connected.

I also compiled your GUI source code with QT Creator. There is no virus in my generated LightCrafterGUI.exe. However, I still could not get USB connected.

    2. USB connection issue

I tried to connect power supply directly to EVM's white power connector (J11) . there is still no USB connection.

multimeter read voltage very close to 5v on the end of EVM power connector.  current around 0.6A is shown on my power supply display panel. I don't think there is anything with power cable.

  • Pascal,

I think I successfully updated DM365 firmware by following instruction in a your Video about DM365 update. I did put SD card all the way to the end and moved switch S2 towards SD. The EVM booted without any issues. I waited until a green light (Led next to DM365)  was on.  I then switched off  ON/OFF button, took out SD card and moved S2 switch towards DM365 and push ON/OFF button again to launch EVM. There was no any issue with it.  I also unplugged power supply and plugged again to EVM. I never got any luck get USB connected. I also worked around with a USB hub, no any luck either.

In EVM user guide, EVM need at least 2.0A, while my power supply only showed 0.6A. is that a problem with power supply? I will try other power supply to see if I got any luck.

  • Min,

Its great that now you can successfully boot the Lightcrafter from SD card.

For the USB Connectivity issue, you can try the following things:

    1.  Make sure you have followed the steps in section 2.3 of the Users guide regarding " First time connection to the PC". Are you connecting to a Windows PC or Ubuntu PC?
    2. In the Light Crafter GUI, go to the Connections tab and check the current IP address. It should be 192.168.1.100 (default address of the Lightcrafter)
    3. Also open a command prompt and type "ipconfig/all". You should be able to see Local area connection for RNDIS Gadget. Verify that the IPv4 address is 1 less than the IP address of the device in the GUI. So the IPv4 address should be 192.168.1.99. Refer to the screenshot below:

  • Pascal,

I tested EVM with another power supply tonight.   I saw  RGB bars. I then pushed side switch to turn EVM off. the D1 LED showed in light red, even though I didn't plug a USB cable. The LED was off until I unplugged power cable. Is the D1 supposed  to  turn on whenever EVM is connected to a power supply or a USB during switch-off status?  I still had no  luck to have my USB connected.

I tried many times to uninstall and install EVM windows bundle. I still had the virus issue in LightCrafter.exe, Can you email me that file to my personal email account?

BTW, I pasted a screen shot of the virus. It seemed your server blocked it.

Let me know what I should try in next step.

  • Manasi,

I dont have any problems to boot from either SD or Flash.

I tried to connect a USB  to PC windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1.

One time I got connection error=5, what is error ID 5? most times I got "no connection" error.

In the LCR GUI, the IP address is 192.168.1.100.

The result of ipconfig/all from my computer is shown below

I am very frustrated with the issue. Can we use a teamviewer or skype to solve the problem together?

  • Pascal,

the following is a screen shot of the virus I mentioned before. Please  read English part only  if you don't know Chinese.

  • Min,

Yes we can arrange for a skype/WebEx session where we can collaborate an d help you solve this issue.

However I would like for you to try some of these things first:

    1.  I suspect that since your Virus scan is giving you a virus warning while extracting the GUI, it might be blocking some of the GUI USB support features and hence the USB connectivity issue. So I would recommend using the attached zipped folder that contains the QT libraries and GUI executable scanned and tested by me. Try to run the GUI executable from here and verify that it does not throw any Virus warnings.
    2. After you can successfully open that GUI, connect the Lightcrafter to your PC let it boot up successfully, wait for about a minute or two for it to be recognized as RNDIS device and then hit Connect on the GUI.
    3. If that still doesn't work, we need to make sure that the Windows Firewall is not blocking the communication to this network device.
    4. To ensure that, open a command prompt and hit this command:
      • ping 192.168.1.100    (IP address of the device)
      • See if you get reply back from the device

If you are able to successfully execute these steps, and still have issues connecting to the lightcrafter over USB, then we would have to investigate deeper into this issue.

Please find the attachment and use GUI from there.

  • Manasi,

It is strange, your zip was scanned with the virus. it may due to my virus scanning software is so sensitive.

Anyway, I tried on other computer, no virus was found.  I also got usb connected only if I disabled my wireless connection.

If I enabled wireless connection, I will get a connection error=7.

Thanks for your help. I will trouble you again if I have more issues.

  • Min,

I am glad it worked on other computer.

And disabling the wireless connection for this USB to work is an expected behaviour. But ethernet connection should still work with this RNDIS connection.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I would be happy to help.

    Regards

    Manasi
