DLP4500 can't connect to the computer

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4500

Hi,
I have a emergency problem with my DLP4500,it can't quick start after the power is on,but the fan can start but without projecting, and, what's more ,the board can't connect to the computer, the D4 LED on the board can turn on and off,so I want to know that what the wrong is with my DLP4500.

Thanks

Liao

  • Hi Liao,

It sounds like the board is in a programming mode. Look at jumpers J18 and J30. If either have a jumper installed, remove them.

Let me know if this solves your problem!

    Best regards,

    Blair

  • I have the same problem.

There is no jumper installed at J30 or J18.

The power supply is the one that TI recommand : http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/CENB1060A1203F01/271-2718-ND/2533054

The LED under the board lights up green but the D4 LED on the top doesn't.

Sometimes the fan start and stops indefinitely when I put on the power supply and other times it just stays on.

    Thanks

  • Hello Steph,

It sounds like your firmware may be corrupted. Does the EVM connect to the computer via USB?

    Best regards,

    Blair

  • Hi Blair,

I can't connect via USB. There is no activity (automatic detection) on the USB bus when I connect the LightCrafter.

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

I have the same problem, cannot connect with USB or HDMI cable. I have just received it from Mouser in the UK and not had it working previously. Plugging either cable in turns off the 4500 and whats more scary is that sparks are sometimes generated at the USB or HDMI ports when plugging in.

Is my unit faulty?  Any urgent help would be most appreciated.

    regards, Trevor

  • Turns out the problem was the laptop power supply which was generating a strong electrical noise via a ground loop and so disabling connectivity. So any suggestions on solving this would be great.

I also would like to use many more than the 48 patterns allowed in storage, but cannot find a way to do this in combination with the PandaBoard. If you can provide a method to send many 1000's of patterns through the panda board to the dlp4500 I would be most grateful. Ultimately I want to project at over 500 fps for 10 sec or more and be able to automatically upload new image sequences.

    regards, Trevor

  • Hello Trevor,

For your requirement > 48 patterns and 500fps

The best available option is to use the RGB digital video port, It can accept 912x1140 resolution frames upto 120Hz. So this will easily meet your requirement.

For Pandaboard there are already instructions provided in the UserGuide about how to built the image. The important part here is how to generate 24bit RGB frames at 912x1140 resolution on the PandaBoard frame buffer.

  • Thank you Sanjeev for the quick reply.

I do not think you understood my posting.  I would like to play a 5 min video at 500 fps at 912x1140. I do not mind lowering the bit resolution. ie. 150000 unique frames. Is this possible with the 4500? Do I need the pandaboard? Is it possible with the pandaboard?

Note that the power supply recommended in the 4500 data sheet created a ground loop, when interacting with my laptop. When either my laptop or 4500 power supply had the ground pin disconnected it solved the problem.  Without this fix, there were sparks when connecting either the usb or HDMI connector.

    regards, Trevor

  • Hello Trevor,

    Thanks for clarification.

4500 is not a problem. Yes, you need Pandaboard or some other processor to send the video stream data to DLP4500. 4500 expects native 912x1140 resolution in pattern mode so not sure reduction in the resolution is a option here.

5min video at 500fps at 912x1140 looks appears to be too big I think, Panda or anyother processor can send video in RGB24 bit kind of format, which is equivalent to 24 binary patterns in one video frame, so question, do you want to send such video frames at 500fps or is it 500/24 - 21Hz rate?

Note that the power supply recommended in the 4500 data sheet created a ground loop, when interacting with my laptop. We are keen to know, is it a flaw in our design and something we can improve upon? or is it a generic problem when there is noise on the ground line? Appreciate your comments on this.

  • Hey ,

It looks like i have the problem with the firmeware as u have described above after an error during the firmeware upgrade  :-( is there any possibility to fix it by my self?

    Thanks for your help

  • Hi,

Hi have the same problem with the LightCrafter 4500 kit. It doesn't start properly and the GUI application never connect through the USB port. Does anybody can provide a solution?

    Best regards,

    Jordi

  • I just solved the problem placing the J18 jumper and then powering up the board. I found the answer at the lilnk suggested by Sanjev, then... Thanks Sanjev!

  • Hi Steph, I also have the same problem. My DLP 4500 was working yesterday so I don't think it the jumper problem. Have you solved this problem?
