Solution to fail to boot Lightcrafter

We recently purchased the second lightcrafter. On the box it says Seal Date:04/03/13 (help you to determine the DM365 version). For our application, we have to remove the optics. After I did that, I was not able to boot the lightcrafter, and the status bar stopped at around 95%. I tried to put the light engine back, no luck... It seems that it was caused by MSP430 version. It was reported that MSP430 2.6 and 2.7 cause this problem. I found if I update DM365 to V5.0, I was able to boot to the system. Here is how to update DM365 without booting into the system. (modified from TI software package, it was found in an early version software package)

You will need: a micro SD card and DLPLCRSoftwareBundle-3.0

Steps:

1. install the software package

2. open a MSDOS command shell with "run as administrator" and change to the directory just uncompressed.

3. execute the command:

- For a SD card that is mapped to E: drive, execute the following command to create an SD card
that flashes NAND,
lcr_boot_sd.exe dm3xx_nandv3_31.dat E:

4. insert the micro-SD card with this image on LightCrafter

5. set the DIP switch on System board to the side closest to the micro-SD card connector

6. set the DIP switch on System board to the side closest to the micro-SD card connector power up the LightCrafter, LED next to DM365 will light up red

while flashing NAND,

- Wait until the LED next to DM365 lights up green. This should be a few seconds after the
fourth splash screen
- Power off the LightCrafter (short press of button on driver board)
- Remove the micro-SD card and set the DIP switch to the side closes to DM365
- Power up the LightCrafter using short press of button on driver board)
- The LED next to the DM365 will start flashing red and green
- A test screen with three colored bars will appear.

Now, you can open LightCrafterGUI, and update FPGA and MSP430. Hope this helps.

  • Bin,

Thank you for posting this. It will help others.

  • Dear Pascal,

I am currently having the same problem as Bin described after removing the projector leds. Reattaching the projector leds did not solve the problem (but I kept them anyway). No version of the DM365 binary seems to allow me to boot successfully (I've tried versions 1.0, 4.0 and 5.0 - nand and sd versions).

Should I see a different version number indicated when booting? Every time I see v1.0 booting until 95% of the way, irrespective of which way the switch is set (towards or away from the SD on - nand or SD versions).

I can't even connect with the USB anymore to check which version of the MSP is being used because the boot fails. I'm short of ideas on how to get the lightcrafter to boot again, do you have any suggestions? Is there a way to reset to factory settings?

    Best,

    Rodrigo
