lightcrafter booting

Hi;

      I have a lightcrafter with 2.0 label on it. I think it requires the version 2.0 firmware. for some reason, when I connected to pc with  HDMI cable, there was a connection error. Therefore, I I updated the firmware from the website. After it I found that the updated firmware is 1.0. This is the latest available for windows. How do I get the version 2.0 firmware?

The led is after the update is red all the time.

Please help.

  • Hello Nishaan,

    Welcome to the DLP & MEMS E2E forum!

    Irrespective of the sticker, you should be able to download the latest software bundle 3.0 from the DLP LightCrafter product folder (http://www.ti.com/tool/DLPLIGHTCRAFTER) and upgrade the DM365 firmware, MSP430 firmware and FPGA firmware  to the one from this bundle.

    Also make sure you use the latest GUI (5.0.0). If you are booting from NAND, follow the instructions in the section 2.13.2.3 of the LightCrafter User's guide.

    All the firmware versions on the GUI should look like this after you upgrade all the firmware files:

    Let me know if you have any further questions.

  • HI Manasi;

                    Thanks for the reply. I still do have problem. Let me give you more details. When I got the lightcrafter, I powered it on and I got the RGB colors. I connected to the pc that had Windows version GUI. However, even after following exactly what the user manual said, I never managed to connect to the lightcrafter.

    Therefore, I thought I had to update the firmware and I did that by downloading the package ( DLP LightCrafter Firmware and Software Bundle - Windows dated 12/5/2013). Using a mini SD card i tried to update the firmware by following the user manual.

    However, after this update, I never got the lightcrafter boot properly. It means, I get a screen saying booting and never got the RGB colors.

    Can you smell the problem here? It has been very frustrating.

    Is updating with miniSD card fine?

    I guess if I can't connect to lightcrafter, I would not be able to update the  MSP430 firmware and FPGA firmware.

    Please help.

    Thank you.

  • Hello Nishaan,

    Thanks for providing the details about the problem you are seeing.

    The DLP LightCrafter Firmware and Software Version dated 12/05/13 is the correct one.

    Could you give me some more information on the booting process that you are using so that I can help you troubleshoot this issue better:

    • Are you formatting the mini SD card before copying the LightCrafter SD /NAND build? I would recommend that you use this HP USB Disk Storage Format tool (http://download.cnet.com/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool/3640-2094_4-10974082-1.html) to format the SD card that you would connect to a PC using the USB adapter.
    • Also just to make sure it is the right kind of SD card that you are using, refer to this sticky about tested SD cards to boot DLP LightCrafter (http://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp__mems_micro-electro-mechanical_systems/f/850/t/308753.aspx)
    • Are you using SD Card boot build (dm365_v5_sd.dat) or NAND build (dm365_v5_nand.dat)?
    • I would recommend that you build the SD card with the SD card boot build first, keep the switch S2 towards the SD card and see if you can boot the LCR.
    • If the first step is successful, then build the SD card with NAND boot build and follow the steps from the Users manual to ensure that the switch is first towards SD card and flip it to the other side, reboot the LCR for it to boot from NAND.
    • During both the steps, let me know if you see the splash images while its booting.
    • Also during both steps, it would be a good idea to collect the debug log by connecting a RS232 cable to the UART port on LCR, set up a TeraTerm or RealTerm application on PC, set up the serial interface with settings described in the Users manual and collect the log and send it to me.

    Hope this helps. Also after trying the above things, if it still doesn't work let's set up a call and work through it together.

    Regards

    Manasi

  • Hi;

            Thank you very much for the suggestions. I see that I have used the correct version of the software.

    I did not use any specific tool to format the SD card.

    I must mention that I have used micro SDHC card. I see from your links that SDHC cards may not be appropriate.

    I do not understand that if we are to use micro SD card to boot the LCR, how would this not be working?

    i did use (dm365_v5_sd.dat).

    I am going to give few more tries following your suggestions. It looks as if we need to setup a call to get this moving.

    Can you please advise me how best I could contact you. I hope it would be a quick process to get this working.

    thanks heaps for your help. I really appreciate it.
