Laser damage threshold

Hello. I'm planning to use the DLP with a 355nm picosecond laser source. Do you know what is the laser damage threshold value? My laser source has 1mJ pulses at 1kHz.

  • Jose,

Welcome to the DLP section of the TI E2E!

If I am not mistaken you plan to spread the beam over an area of about 1 sq cm.  The UV DMD specifies 2.3 W / sq cm for wavelengths 355 and greater.  That translates to about 2.3 kHz,  so I think you should be ok.

I believe you are already talking to your reseller about this issue.  He should have some further information about using the DMD at this wavelength to extend the life of the DMD.

    Fizix.

  • I am also trying to use a 355 nm pulsed laser ~100 mJ/cm2 per pulse over a 30ns pulse duration @ 10kHz.  All of the specs for the power ratings for the chip seem to be in average power.  What about peak power over the pulse?  Is there a damage threshold?  Also, do you know of anyone trying to process at even shorter wavelengths?  We are considering trying to do something at 248 nm.  Is this potentially plausible?  Thanks very much for your time.
