Explanation of DLP chip failure: white dots and white haze?

I have the WD-73737 DLP TV from Mitsubishi.  I noticed a lighter, halo effect, on the lower portion of the screen a few years back and remained but did not get worse till now.  About 1.5 yrs ago, starting noticing a white dot, and today had around 8 noticeable, but when close to screen can see black dots as well.  Went ahead and replaced the chip and both white dots and haze are fixed.

I understand the white dots are the mirrors getting stuck.  However, the white haze is not well documented online.  It appears to me to be on the inside of the glass above the mirrors.  See 2 pics below, the first shows haze on top and shows it’s on glass and not mirror.

This second pic is from directly above.  I actually see haze on top and bottom of the glass, however on the bottom, it is below the mirrors and therefore not noticeable on the TV.

Found another similar pic with haze in online forum
