Collimating the LightCommander

Hello,

I was wondering if it was possible to collimate the image (or roughly)  from the Light Commander instead of using it as a projector? What I am trying to do is create a sharp image on a screen that doesn't change in size or focus as you move back.  Is there any other optic that we can replace the projector lens with or something to put after the projector lens?

Thank you

  • Hello Evan,

First, welcome to the DLP section of the TI-E2E Community.

What you ask is very difficult.  You can stop down the lens to get a huge depth of field, but if this is the actual LightCommander that was made and sold by LogicPD then you will begin to get a grid of color bands in x and y.  This is caused by the tapered integrator rod.  To get uniform color you should operate at F4 or better.

Since this takes F-mount (Nikon) lenses you might try a zoom lens with it.  A 35-70 mm F/3.5 lens was used for TI Tech Day demos of the LightCommander for several years with very good results -- allowing both focusing and a range of image sizing for the venue.

    I hope this helps.
